With today’s 90 degree temperature we know that the summer heat is with us for good, well the next two months at least. We need to make sure our closets and beauty cabinets are stocked with the summer essentials. During the summer months, you want to be as low maintenance as possible. With the humidity and sweltering heat, sometimes it is pretty pointless getting all dolled up. So here are the basics that you need that will keep you fashionable and give you that summer glow.

One thing that I should not have to mention is sunblock. Sunblock is not only a summer essential, it is something that should be worn year round, even in the winter.

  1. Fedora- We need maximum sun protection and a fedora will shade our faces from the UVA and UVB rays.
  2. Aviators- Who said protecting your eyes can’t be fashionable? Aviators are classic and will never go out of style.
  3. Bronzer- Every woman wants that summer glow. Bronzers help you achieve the J. Lo and Beyonce glow and it is in expensive. I have one from CoverGirl that I bought from Target and it was about $7.
  4. Nude lip gloss-If you are too afraid to try the bolder colors for the season like coral or orange, the nude lip is perfect for you.
  5. Tank tops- I have a million in all colors (It is crazy). They are low maintenance and can be dressed up or dressed down and very comfy.
  6. Cut-off shorts- Wear these with a plain tee or tank top and a statement necklace and a cute pair of flat sandals and you are ready to hit the streets.
  7. Sundress- Summer dresses are feminine, cute, and flirty. Perfect for picnics, bbqs, or summer concerts
  8. Cute flat sandals- This is self-explanatory really. Cute sandals are a must. They can be worn with cute summer dresses and shorts
  9. Canvas tote- I love large bags! I can throw everything in the bag and not feel weighed down. A large canvas tote is perfect for the summer because there is enough space for a sweater if you go to a place where there is an AC, flat sandals-just in case you’re on the move, books, magazines, and all of the essentials.
  10. Tinted moisturizer-During the summer it is too hot for foundation. You can achieve the same coverage as foundation, but it is not as heavy and if you perspire a lot this is the best option.

Don’t forget to drink lots of water! You want to stay hydrated. You can have an iced caramel coffee from DD also :-)

I hope this list keeps you cool and fashionable throughout the summer. Stock up now ladies.

For all of my Hello Kitty and beauty lovers, this is the perfect collaboration for you! The Hello Kitty Sanrio brand has teamed up with Sephora for a highly anticipated collection, which features makeup, brushes, mirrors, nail polish and fragrances.

A few months ago I went to an event (sorry forgot which one) and received a goody bag. There were various beauty products and samples in the bag and I just placed everything in my goody bag bin and I would sort through everything later. Well when I finally decided to sort through my bin of treasures I saw a lip gloss by Pixi. I never heard of the brand before and I was a little skeptical at first, but any reservations that I had before quickly subsided after I started using the product.

Pixi Vitamin Lip Silk (Source)

A sheer lipgloss with added vitamins, this leaves a transparent slick of shine and a tint of color.  Adds a sheer touch of color to lips for a soft effect.

1. Vitamins A & E: Anti aging ingredients.
2. Vitamin C: A natural antioxidant.
3. Beeswax: A natural emollient that “holds” pigment.
4. Silica: A natural mineral that provides an easy glide.

No.1 Flora – Clear pinky peach.

No.2 Amfinite – Clear peachy nude.

No.3 Tiryn – Clear hot pink.

No.4 Hero – Clear warm red

My Thoughts

I absolutely love this lip gloss! It has the perfect name because it goes on like silk. I have Hero and it gives just a hint of color for those days when I do not want to have a dramatic lip. It looks great paired over various lip sticks and lip glosses. I love blending the hero with with peaches and pinks. I like to use it with my matte red lip stain from e.l.f for the perfect amount of color and shine. I have been using it sparingly until I can get to Target and get another tube.

Pros:

  • Not sticky
  • Goes on very smoothly
  • Not too sheer and adds the right amount of color
  • Conditions and moisturizes your lips
  • Long lasting shine

Cons

  • This may not be a con to some people, but I never pay more than $8 for lipgloss, but this lipgloss costs $15. That is pretty steep for a drugstore brand.

Ok so here at HerGoodyBag we try to keep things positive. We keep the trash talkin to a minimum, but what I am about to say needs to be said:

Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash was definitely a waste of time.

I have been to quite a few events like Fashion Bash and this by far was the absolute worse.

  1. The “Goody Bags” (if that is what you want to call it) were pointless. I was on the elevator with my friend Kim (check out her blog) and these two girls said “this is an embarrassment! Shecky’s is way better.” If you want to compete with an event like Shecky’s or Tribeca Retail Club you must come correct! The bags consisted of either some false eyelashes, lipgloss (that dries out your lips, where is the shine?) ,or if you were lucky you got a bag with a pair of Fredericks of Hollywood boy shorts (not my size) and a french tip nail pen. Every bag had colgate wisps and some organic chips (best thing in the bag) or a luna bar. So my goody bag had about four things in it along with a coupon for 1800-Flowers. I ended up swapping with my cousin.
  2. There was a limited variety of vendors. Most of the vendors either had attitudes or their merchandise was overpriced. I am not spending $45 on a dress that I can get at Forever21 for $12.80. I am not buying a $30 ring that I can get for $7 (the same exact ring). Everything was over priced except for like a few booths, but the quality of the merchandise was sub par.
  3. The vendors did not cater to a variety of styles. Most of the vendors had the same over priced merchandise and the styles were very limited. Everything was either too big or too small as far as accessories. There were some nice pieces that I did see, but the price was outrageous. There were only a few people selling handbags and most of the bags looked like grandma would carry them now.
  4. The “cocktails” were more like experiments. I am all for “going green” but some of the drinks served tasted like they were still in the lab kitchen.
  5. On a more positive note, cosmetic company Eve Pearl was there and they were doing free make overs so that was a plus. Rani Spa was also giving free facials, but the line was too long and I didn’t feel like waiting #kanyeshrug

Overall, it was just a bad experience. My mom also went and she left after 2o minutes. It was too funny! I did end up buying a tunic (Kim and I thought it could be a dress, but its a lot shorter than it looks lol) for $10 which isn’t bad, but I am pretty upset that I paid for the event. I can see why they were giving out free tickets, because it is not worth it. They must definitely try again. Especially with the goody bag because that is what will attract customers. They had good intentions, but they need another game plan to make this event successful.

Did anyone else go to the event? What was your experience like?

Today is the last day for the Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash in NYC. If you have yet to purchase your tickets you are in luck!. Top Button is running a promotion and you can get a FREE ticket by using the promo code: TB at checkout. Go to www.sassycitychicks.com to get your free ticket.
