Men’s Style: Fall Footwear

Fall is in full swing and the air is getting so much more chilly. It’s not only about keeping warm up top, let’s not forget about the base. Many different styles, materials, and options for your choosing. Whether its boots, kicks or shoes make sure your colors and materials embrace the autumn flavor and not stay stuck in another season.

Sneakers

Obviously I’m more inclined to choose this option. Luckily for me companies like the Jordan Brand, Clae Footwear & Converse not only have the heat for Autumns cooler temps but they fully embrace fall materials and colors. Sneaks like the AJIX Olive and Converse Chuck Taylor Hi Wool definitely add some dimension to your wardrobe.

 

Boots

Obviously we’re familiar with Timberland but there are so many other options for boots. Don’t toss the 6 inch’s away but open horizons and take a look at a oxford boot or a full patent leather boot (actually in my repertoire).

Shoes

A good shoe is always a must for any gentleman. Obviously they’re not just for work but also for those casual times with the ones closest to you. Cole Haan always has a nice selection and the use of the technology from parent company Nike keeps these shoes comfortable as well as stylish. Don’t forget the loafers, always stylish for the fall.

Men’s Style: Back To School

As summer winds down the inevitable happens… School returns to session. If you were smart enough to avoid summer session and enjoy your break setting your alarm clock is going to be a drag.  Ahh oh well man up and get those textbooks cracking with these Fall looks that will have your style GPA in the top percentile.

As a man ages so should his wardrobe. Classic styling like plaid and loafers go a long way. Grab your favorite fitted jean and complete the look. Its also perfect when your done with class and need to unwind at the local hangout. Not much to say here just move along and add these stand

When those temps change in your closet should be many types of sweaters. A shawl neck cardigan can be a life saver when those winds change and the degrees drop. Versatile enough to be worn open or closed as well as buttoned up or casual with 2 left open. Classic wool cap closes off this style with non athletic sneakers. This chukka style shows your more than just a hypebeast. I love solid full rinsed jeans with almost any look.

Obviously when school opens up your looking to impress. Gotta have the heat on the feet. One of the hottest Jordans to come out during the summer will accomplish this for you. But is that it? Nope you gotta turn it up a notch and keep the theme going with Olympic inspired gear such as this hoodie from Polo. Next step ditch the sneaker / jean combo. I love to grab a straight chino to pull this outfit together. Shows your about business even when your keeping it funky.

If you know me this look is a standard for me. So why change what isnt broke. Button down with a elegant cardigan added to your freshest kicks keeps things moving along quite nicely. Obviously your favorite jean is a must but do stay away from the oversize, meaning length and waist. Elbow patches and this seasons hot patterned fabric in Gingham might keep the eyes off the blackboard and solely on you.

Men’s Style: Fall Must Haves

Just like every year the summer ends and the beauty of Fall rolls in. I unlike many others welcome the change in seasons since it signals a change in wardrobe. I mean T-Shirts and camo short s can only be worn so many times.  Time to shelve those tanks and get your hands on these Fall must haves. Trust me the fun doesnt have to stop because the degrees dip below 70.

Chunky Cardigan

The cardigan is a typical knit for men to wear, it never goes out of style. However, the chunky ribbed knit cardigan adds more shape and body, especially if you have a slim figure. I love how its styled with a white shirt and the bow tie really makes the whole look very appealing. Wearing a cotton shirt with a cardigan, looks sleek and attractive.

Bold Colors

Dont let the weather dictate your mood. Do away with the dreary greys and blacks and add some excitement to your style. This can be accomplished in a couple of ways. Take that grey/black sweater/pants combo and throw underneath a canary or burgundy stretch poplin shirt. Chinos come in many a color or dress up your accessories like ties or scarves with a standout shade.

The Chino

Obviously a staple for any man. This pant nowadays is the ultimate casual/business, night/day wardrobe piece. Companies like Banana Republic or my sleeper site Bonobos not only will keep you in the loop but also make it very affordable. From the wash to cut to the colors you cant go wrong.

Gingham

Move away from the plaid. It was a great run for the last 2 years but it might be overdone. Patterns like stripes & checks will never die but Gingham is vastly under utilize. It gives the appearance of wealth while remaining very affordable. Oh and its not even a pattern as more of a material. Gingham is a medium-weight balanced plain-woven fabric made from dyed cotton or cotton-blend yarn. Checked gingham became more common over time, though striped gingham was still available in the late Victorian period. If you love checks and stripes look into this style.

Sport Coat

A cool blazer is definitely a must-have item, and the styles available really give blazers a life of their own. You can find some with patch pockets and/or elbow patches, others with big lapels and double-sided vents, but they are all a revival of retro looks. And don’t forget moleskin and corduroy options which can be a less formal look than tweed. Or choose a nice wool or wool and cashmere combination with three or two buttons. Don’t get to wild with color though. Can easily be paired with jeans or dress pants.

Men’s Style: Hats

As with most articles of clothing there is a time and place for everything. Unfortunately (I maintain an extensive collection) the fitted hat is neither appropriate or acceptable with every outfit. For that reason as with most accessories you have to branch out. Now don’t be scared you can rep your favorite team at the local BBQ or casual event but not with a three piece suit or at most NYC nightlife venues.  So below are a few other choices that not only will keep you on point but also easily accessible & venue appropriate.

Driving Cap

This ever-popular, classic men’s cap is usually styled in wool and acrylic with a nylon lining. Snap-up visor and elastic back for a perfect fit. Great for being out on the town or out in country, it will provide years of warmth and comfort and goes well with business attire or casual wear.

Fedora

A fedora is a felt hat most commonly worn by men. The term is usually generic, describing any men’s hat that does not already have another name; a few fedoras have names of their own, including the trilby or homburg. The hat is typically creased lengthwise down the crown and “pinched” in the front on both sides. The most notable after the fitted and great for tropical destinations as they do come in straw as well.

A trilby hat is a type of fedora. The trilby was once viewed as the rich man’s favored hat. It is also sometimes described as a “crumpled” fedora. The trilby has a shorter brim which is angled down at the front and slightly turned up at the back.  Traditionally it is made from rabbit hair felt, but is usually made from other materials, such as tweed, straw, wool and wool/nylon blends. Can be seen at the races or music icons such as Ne-Yo.

Derby/Bowler

The Bowler hat is the first hat credited for being mass produced and priced to meet everyone’s budget, because of this the Derby Hats were worn by virtually every class of society. The derby hat comes in many different styles from the low-crown to the stingy brim. Usually a hat for coachmen but obviously the style translates to other walks of life.
