Archives for October 2012

The good people over at Fly Credentials just released this dope new His/Her crew neck. Yes ladies and gents now you and your boo can really get fly. I think this look is hot for guys and girls. Since I’m a girly girl, I put my twist on this look with a pair of skinny jeans and heels or like the model in the pic with  shorts, tights, and heels The fellas can throw on a fly pair of sneakers and ladies if you want a more relaxed tom boyish look a pair of J’s would be perfect for you too.

“In life, we all pay a price to play. Now the term play can mean anything. Whether it’d be sports, partying, etc.,  there is always a price to pay. If you play a sport you have a chance of being injured, or if you party on a work night then you will paying the price of being tired at work. The Pay To Play crew neck is for the individual who doesn’t mind paying the price.”

Keke Palmer is definitely not the same little girl from Akeelah and the Bee. She has grown in to a lovely young lady with great style. You never hear anything negative about Ms. Palmer in the media and she is definitely a positive role model for young girls today. She recently debuted a new look and some people aren’t too happy with her new look.

Keke Palmer

Many people feel she looks too “grown” but she is 19 years old now. How should a 19 year old look? I think she still looks youthful. I’ve also heard/read about women saying she wants to be white and embrace the European standard of beauty. People kill me with this “women who wear weaves or have relaxed hair want to be white” theory. It’s called a preference. Are women who wear their hair natural trying to prove their “blackness?” No, so if a person makes a decision to switch up their style why must the reason be negative? Only she (and God) knows the reason she wanted to make the change. The same can be said for Tia Mowry with her new short do. People automatically assumed the worse because she switched her look. I am not saying you have to like the style, but how about we stop trying to rationalize and offer theories to prove why a person should hate the look.

I personally like her new hair color. It’s young and it is fun. I loved the blonde on Ciara, Beyonce, and Rihanna. I am not a fan of it on Keyshia Cole because it is more platinum and this is more honey, but it’s just a color choice. I think it compliments her and it she looks great.

What do you all think about Keke Palmer’s hair? Rock it or Drop it?

This past weekend I was in the sunny state of Florida where temperatures reached 90 degrees. I was in shorts, rompers, and sandals for three days and then I had to come back home to 46 degree weather. I couldn’t believe my eyes as I watched the news as my plane landed at JFK. It was 46 degrees in New York and I only had a on a denim jacket. Well this weather reminded me of one of the few things that I like about fall, all of my wonderful boots and booties.

One of my favorite pairs would have to be these leopard print wedge booties that I scored last year for $30 on sale. As most of you know I love leopard print and I was on cloud 9 when I spotted these in the window of a boutique in Brooklyn. I just had to take a trip down memory lane. These babies will be making an appearance on my feet pretty soon 🙂

Now if you know me you know that I loathe sweatpants. I don’t own a pair and people think I’m crazy. I just can’t bring myself to wearing them. I have leggings and yoga pants and those are my go-to items for comfort. I think it was in college when I decided I hated sweatpants. While on the dance team when we would travel to competitions we would have to wear our “uniforms” which were oversized sweats from the 90s, maybe even the 80s. Because dance wasn’t considered a “real sport” we didn’t get a budget from the sports department so we had to pay for everything ourselves. One of our advisors happened to find some sweats in a storage room and voila our uniforms. I had to wear a size large when I needed an extra small. This is probably when my disdain for sweats surfaced. Anywhoo, fashionista Robyn Fenty (Rihanna) was recently spotted rocking some sweats and she looked AMAZING. Rihanna looks amazing in almost  anything she wears, but this look is super comfortable and chic. She paired her sweats with a cropped hoodie and varsity jacket.  This look is also perfect for traveling during the fall and winter months-minus the cropped hoodie.

What I love most about these sweat pants is that the are fitted. I have a huge problem with ill-fitting clothing. It takes away from the a person’s body shape and sometimes makes them appear larger. Everything doesn’t have to be skin tight, but there should be some type of shape. I think people who wear sweats try to hide something and we should all be comfortable and embrace our bodies. So here are some options for chic sweatpants to add to your wardrobe.

On Saturday I started celebrating my birthday early! October 2nd is the big day, but I couldn’t wait to celebrate. I started the celebration with brunch with a few of my friends at one of my favorite brunch spots. Sunday morning  my good friend from high school and her bf took me to breakfast, and Sunday night I had dinner with my siblings and 2 friends before we all headed over to the Barclays Center for Jay-Z’s concert. Guess what, the celebration doesn’t stop there! I’ll have updates throughout the week with my birthday festivities.

If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen my “All Black Everything” outfit. I was going for a trendy look so I wore leather shorts, lace top with black tank underneath, patterned tights, and wedge sneakers. Everything was super trendy, but I guess I gave off Sex Kitten instead lol. Those were not my intentions. I got SOOOO many stares. I didn’t think the outfit was as scandalous as people made it seem lol. It was definitely weird, maybe it was the red lip, who knows, but I still had a great time none the less. Outfit details in the caption.

For brunch, I was reluctant to concede to the fall temperatures so I wore a shirt dress without tights and my burgundy wingtip heels. I should have put on tights, it was definitely a little chilly, but next time I wear this dress it will be with tights.
