Archives for June 2010

Yesterday I attended Kitty Bradshaw’s 2-year blogiversary networking event. It was held at the APART Showroom in Manhattan. The night was full of great bloggers, great food, great drinks, great manicures, great conversations and an even greater goody bag. She had a great turn out and I was able to meet many of my fellow bloggers that I follow on twitter like The Fab Chick, Pink Monkey, and Nik of The Single Girl’s Guide to Men. Here are some photos of the event.

I attended the event with my friend Kim the MUA

Here are a few pieces from APART that were on display

In the goody bag, APART also gave the fashion bloggers a flash drive with a preivew of their 2010 Fall Collection! I was so excited about this! Expect an IN DEPTH review soon.  I love the sequins leggings with the black turtleneck and blazer, it is a subtle look but makes a strong statement. The blue sequins dress is also amazing. My favorite piece would have to be the brown leather jacket. Kim actually brought that jacket to my attention at another event we went to maybe about a month ago. Seeing it again is a confirmation…I need to get it!

They also had great cupcakes provided by Tonnie’s Minis

Now anybody that knows me, know that I love a good cupcake, and these were DELICIOUS! My favorite had to be the red velvet. One thing that I love more than cute little mini cupcaks would have to be SHOES (crazy transition right?)

Nina Shoes was a sponsor for the event and they showcased their Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 line.

I love the blue jewel encrusted peep toe. That is a great date/evening shoe. I also love the pink strappy sandal. It is fun and flirty. It can be paired with jeans, shorts, or a dress and add a different dynamic to each look.
My favorite shoe would have to be the light up booties! They are a perfect night time/club party shoe! These definitely make a statement, but what’s great about this bootie is that you can turn off the lights. So if you want to have fun and be the center of attention, let the booties light up, but you have the option of turning off the shoe for a more subtle look.

I loved this guys DSquared2 sneakers and the wedge heels are simply fabulous. They are also made by Nina Shoes

I had a really great time. Congratulations to Kitty Bradshaw for 2 years of blogging success!

So last Friday was the Tribeca Retail Club “Summer Love” event and I had a blast. Once again it was in an intimate setting, which allowed me to take my time at various booths are really talk to the designers and beauty/health experts, unlike other events where people are literally on your back. Here are a few photos from the event.

Dani Katescreator of Kandi Swim which has been featured in Glamour and Sports Illustrated. You also have accessories by Lavazzon. Every thing is hand made which makes their pieces very unique.

Tru Butter’s real skin care products were amazing. It is made with shea butter, which I absolutely love. The butters did keep my hands moisturized for a very long. Most body butters say it lasts for 24hrs but within 10 minutes your hands are dry. This is not the case with Tru Butter products.

Here are a few pieces from Finish Touches Accessories. They were at the last event and I bought two pairs of earrings from them. My friend Kim actually bought the chunky green necklace and my friend Jennifer bought this beautiful coral bracelet.

The accessories are from Sociallite accessories which is a boutique located in Harlem. They had a variety of pieces including unique tie and bow tie chains. The young lady in the yellow is designer Dominique Auxilly. She had a variety of dresses that were unique and one of a kind designs. The dress she is wearing is one of her own and it looks amazing. That color looks gorgeous.

Overall, I had a really good experience at the Tribeca Retail Club “Summer Love” event. My only gripe, I was expecting a little bit more in the goody bag. Some really great products came in the bag like nail polish, eye masks, eye cream etc, but that was the only con really. Two of my readers who attended the event said they would like to see more of  vendors that cater to a variety of sizes not just the size 2s and 4s.

So there you have it! For those of you that attended the event what did you think about it?

This post was inspired by Chris Brown’s Michael Jackson Tribute from the BET Awards last night.

I am not going to lie, I was in tears during this performance. First of all, the dancing was ON POINT! There is no one (not Usher, Omarion, or Justin Timberlake) who could have paid homage to Michael Jackson like Chris Brown. He was not given the opportunity to pay respects to Michael Jackson because of the incident with Rihanna last year and for him to pour his heart out on stage was extremely emotional.

Twitter was going crazy last night and I must say I only saw a few ignorant tweets, but if you did not think that performance was heart felt and genuine, I am not sure if you are human. Some people feel his cry was staged, but Chris Brown is not that great of an actor to pull that off. He finally had an opportunity to pay tribute to his idol the right way and he was able to show the world that he truly is sorry for his actions. He made himself vulnerable to the point where he could not sing.

WE ALL make mistakes and bad decisions in our lives, so who are we to judge this young man and incredible entertainer? Sure his earlier efforts may not have seemed “genuine” to some, but he deserves a second chance. If a person is trying to show you that they want to make their lives better and is just asking for forgiveness, why not forgive them? It takes more energy and effort to hold on to grudges and past hurts, than it does to forgive and be set free from emotional and mental bondage. You have to constantly remind yourself of why you hate or despise that person so much that you miss out on the joys of life, and clearly seeing Chris Brown perform is definitely a joy with the lack of talent that we have in the music industry today.

Pastor Bernard has taught me that in order for a person to change in the mind, they must first have a change of heart. So Chris Brown has done all he can do, he has done his community service, he has apologized, and he has been suffering in isolation since but read the words of “Man In the Mirror”

 I’m Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It’s Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .

If someone is trying to make it right, don’t deny them the opportunity. Look into your life and ask yourself, have I forgiven the person or people who have caused me hurt, pain, or suffering? The first step to healing starts with you. This is not going to happened in one day. I am still struggling with totally forgiving people who have hurt me, but that performance and listening to the words of the song made me reevaluate myself. So

I’m Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I’m Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change

Last night we had some great performances! Besides the MJ Tribute, my favorite would have to be either Diddy-Dirty Money and DJ Khaled (Hey I’m from the hood #don’tjudgeme) Here is a recap of the performers and presenters.

Nicki Minaj and Drak held it down for Young Money…I hated all of Nicki’s wigs! Gimmicks do not bring longevity. I did appreciate her speech (although it was LONG) she is obviously being the bigger person in this “Beef”

Where are you Yeezy? Well he was on top of a mountain. I understood the concept of his performance, not sure if it was executed as well as he would have thought. It was good to see him back on stage after his hiatus and I ABSOLUTELY love this song! It is #2 on my playlist (B.o.B  “Airplanes” is #1)

Monica’s bat/gargoyle wings #FAIL, Alicia looked lovely, Keyshia’s 22″ mullett #FAIL, Ciara was on point.

T.I. and Travis Barker killed it! Diddy-Dirty Money (and the crew) killed it too, I’m glad Eminem is back! I wish I was going to the “Renegade Concert” with Em and Hov 🙁

Last night I am pretty sure that most of you were glued to your television like I was watching the BET Awards. This year’s show had to be the best show in a very long time! It actually looked like it was plan unlike last year’s debacle. Here is a recap of some hot and not so hot looks from the red carpet.

Brandy, Fergie, and Cassie

Ashanti, Ciara (hate the boots, love the dress) Nia Long (looks phenomenal), Eva, and Chilli (smh- no comment)

Tatiana Ali (ehh), Taraji P. Henson (love it), Laila Ali, and Niecy Nash (Love the color)

Vivica A. Fox, Kim Fields, Brittney Daniels (did we really need to see your pelvic bone?) Holly Robinson Peete, Tia Mowry (love it)

Jaden, Willow, Jada, Diddy-Dirty Money (Dawn and Kaleena are the flyest backup dancers/singers) N.E.R.D.

Not too many disappointments….good job.
