Archives for December 2012

It is that time of the year again! Time to set goals and create a vision for the upcoming year! Take a look at my goals for 2012 and here are a few goals that I actually accomplished

  • I hosted my first event with MUA/Beauty Blogger Kim Porter
  • I shopped my closet! I did a lot of repeating this year and it was the best money saver yet!
  • I wanted to switch up my hair styles and I did. I had about 7 hair styles this year. 7! Take a look through my favorite what I wore posts to get an idea of the different styles
  • I became a better networker, especially with brands!

There were a few things that I did not accomplish, like improve my youtube channel, but I did improved my social media presence! So I still have some work to do. Here are my goals for 2013

  1. Time management! Manage my time between God, family/friends, work, social life, and the blog of course
  2. Continue to shop my closet and become a better thrifter (Who doesn’t love saving money)
  3. Improve the health of my hair (It has grown tremendously over the last year and I want to reach BSL-brastrap length or longer this year)
  4. Workout! When I created HerGoodyBag I wanted it to be a one stop shop to help you look good, feel great, and live better and health is important. I want to incorporate more healthy workout tips and recipes to stay in shape. When we are in shape our clothes look amazing!
  5. Network- I did well this year, but I know I can do more. I want to start working more directly with brands and collaborating with other bloggers to provide better content for you all.
  6. Improve my Youtube channel. I am serious about this! I will be purchasing equipment within the next month to begin that process.
  7. Host another event! Fabulously Chic was a success and I hope to bring you another great event! I also want to host smaller events as well with brands and retailers
  8. Create better content! I think I accomplished that this year! I will be doing a survey within the next week to find out what YOU want to read. After all I do this for the people lo
  9. Community Service! I have to start giving back, so I will be looking in to volunteering with women’s shelters and other organizations to help women Look Good. Feel Great. Live Better.
  10. Interact more with my readers! I truly appreciate all of you and I am thinking of ways to interact with you all more!

My 2013 Vision Board is complete and my goals are set! So let’s make the rest out our days the best of our days! Happy 2013!

year in review2

2012 was an amazing year for the blog. I want to start off by thanking all of my supporters and readers. Without you guys, this blog would not be here. A lot has happened in my life this year as well, but I must say that it was a year to remember. So here is a look at some of my top moments from 2012 and I thank you all again for all of your support and wish you and your families love, peace, joy, health, and wealth in the new year!

2012 Year In Review

1. Brandbassador– this probably had to be the highlight of 2012. This was my first MAJOR blog accomplishment. in 2011 I was a finalist for best Fashion and Beauty blog, but in 2012 my voice in the fashion blogosphere was recognized and I was selected out of 150 bloggers to be the first to represent the Brand!

2. FAB-ulously Chic event– One of my goals for the year was to host an event with my friend MUA/Beauty Blogger Kim Porter and July 24th at Shic by Soketah it became a reality. It took A LOT of work to pull off, but FAB-ulously Chic was a huge success. We collaborated with amazing sponsors like Juicy Magazine, Jamberry Nails, Zico Coconut Water and Fly Credentials Brand, Elleina D. Accessories to bring our readers awesome gift bags as well as amazing giveaways. We are already thinking of ideas for FAB-ulously Chic pt. 2 so stay tuned!

3. BlogHer Conference-this was my first official blogging conference and I had no clue what to expect. I have to thank Kitty Bradshaw and the ladies of O So Chic for making this a great experience. I was a BlogHer Newbie and was actually quite nervous on what to expect. I was able to meet and collaborate with some amazing brands and bloggers because of this experience. I stepped out of my “little shy shell” and marketed myself and my brand. I still have a lot of work to do, but one of my goals was to network this year and this conference allowed that to happen! I was also able to meet Badgley & Mishka which was just AWESOME!

4. NYFW (Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter) I was able to cover NYFW for two more seasons and it was again an amazing experience. Because of the various events I was introduced to amazing new designers and bloggers as well. I am looking forward to what February has in store for NYFW Fall/Winter 2013.

5. Various Events (Marshall’s/TJ Maxx OCC Preview, The Makeup Show, QVC Beauty Event, Effen Vodka, RedLight PR, Physicians Formula  etc.) As a blogger I get invited to quite a few events out of the year and some I am able to attend others I am not. Some events are amazing, and others, well I could have saved the cute outfit for another day. But above are just a FEW of the highlights of the events I was able to attend this year. If you follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, you would have up to date coverage and access to the various events I attend.

You can expect more from HerGoodyBag in 2013! Stay tuned!

Have you made your New Year’s Eve plans yet? How will you be ringing in the New Year? House party? Club? Lounge? Upscale restaurant? We have a look appropriate for almost any function (except for church). So take a look at these outfits I created to have you  “shine bright like a diamond” *Rihanna Voice” and enter the New Year in a spectacular way.

Look #1 (click the image for product details) For this look I wanted something sexy, yet cool. So I paired multi-color sequins pants with a black peplum top and red blazer for a pop of color. For accessories I added a gold collar necklace, gold cuff earrings, and a multi-colored cocktail ring to complete the look. Lastly a great clutch and pair of shoes are a NECESSITY, but because I wanted the focus to be on the pants I paired simple black peep toe pumps with a simple black clutch for the finishing touches.

New Year's Eve Look #1

Look #2 (click the image for product details) Gold and other metallics are perfect for the New Year. I wanted something classy and sophisticated so I paired this sweetheart sequins peplum dress with gold pumps and gold/glitter accessories. The dress has a hint of rose, so I added rose gold earrings and to the look. Because of the intricate detailing of the dress, I kept the accessories to a minimum. Lastly I would use the Urban Decay naked palette to create a a soft neutral eye with gold highlights.

New Year's Eve Look #2

Look #3 (click the image for product details) I call this my spicy look. The first was edgy, the second was sweet, but the third will definitely take your style game up a notch. I paired a sequins gold bustier top with a black pencil skirt (high-waist skirts are optional). For my accessories I wanted to add a color to break up the black and gold so I went with maroon/burgundy accessories. With this look you get to show a little skin, but also keep somethings to the imagination.

New Year's Eve Look #3

What will be your go to look to bring in 2013?

Hey dolls!

With 2013 right around the corner we had to do our yearly review of the top trends. This year was amazing for the fashion and beauty industries. The popular trends took the world, yes the world, by storm. You had everything from oxblood and tangerine, to “poetic justice” braids and wedge sneakers, celebs and fashionistas all over made 2012 a year to remember. Take a look at the hottest trends of 2012.

Beauty- Tangerine Lips, Vampy Lips, Claw nails and intricate nail art

For the spring/summer we saw tangerine lips all of the street and for the fall/winter vampy lips were in control. The nail art craze went to an entirely new level, especially with the intricate designs and 3d application. We can’t forget about the claw/stiletto shape either.

Hair- Poetic Justice Braids, Ombre Hair, High Bun (top knot)- none of these trends are new or groundbreaking, but they made a huge comeback in 2012. The most popular would have to be the top knot that Lala is rocking. Everyone from my 5 year old niece to Beyonce took part in this trend. Solange brought back the “poetic justice braids” again this year and even got her sister Beyonce to partake in the trend. Lastly, ombre hair was huge. Everyone from Ciara to Keke Palmer took rocked this look.

Fashion- Peplum, Hi-Lo (skirts, dresses, tops), Wedge sneakers were huge this year. I mean Tracee Ellis Ross rocked her Isabel Marants and the internet went crazy! Now you can find a dupe pair almost anywhere and in multiple color ways. Then you had the infamous peplum. Whether it was a shirt, skirt, dress, or jacket everyone accentuated their curves with this trend. Lastly, the hi-low trend made a good run. There were hi-low maxis, midis, tops, and more. It allowed you to show a little leg in the front and keep things to the imagination in the back.

What was your favorite trend for fashion, beauty, and hair this year?

Another year on the horizon and I don’t know about you but I’m excited for it and so thankful to what 2012 has brought me. New friends & new opportunities such as writing for this site. I learned a lot about style over this year and I hope I relayed that across my few posts. Only one way to end the year right is to bring in the next looking as proper as possible, so gentlemen below are a few ideas on how to do it right.

Depending on the type of event here are 3 options that should give you a basic idea of where my mind is going. Not every one is for the full get up but that doesn’t mean style should be lax as well…

Now some like to go all out but try to keep a little fun involved. Patterned accessories or not so normal fabrics should help you accomplish this…

Somewhere in between your look can lie as well but again fabrics and accents must be key. A full on hard bottom might turn you off so something like a dress boot can keep a little funk.

  • Try to avoid too much matching – patterns, fabrics, colors.
  • Avoid too many loud colors – subtlety speaks louder.
  • Make sure of your size & fit – #1 mistake made by most.
  • Avoid logos with suits – Gucci, Hermes & such belts & patterns should never be paired with suiting. Keep it for when you’re on the ave.

Keep it fly & safe this new years night & see you in 2013!
