The final looks

My schedule has been pretty hectic lately and I wanted to make sure I posted 12 looks without losing your interest. So in this post you will see an additional nine looks. I created looks that show a variety of styles. With the skinny jeans set, you have looks that can go for an after five event if you want a feminine yet masculine touch. You have boho inspired looks with bowler hats and fringe bags. You also get to see how to layer pieces. Layering is a great technique if you want to find ways to get more use out of your clothes. Layer a white button up shirt or a denim shirt over your favorite t-shirt or tank. This will instantly change the look of your outfit.

Four looks with four essential items

For my second set I focused on the skater skirt. These looks can be done with mini skirts, body con skirts, maxi skirts or even pencil skirts. The only type of skirt I would be hesitant to try these looks with is a midi skirt.

1 Skater Skirt 3 Looks

The last and final set features two simple looks using a sheath dress. The first look is wearing the sheath dress alone with a pair of pumps. This look is great for day or night. To show that you mean business at work, pair it with a blazer, which is also another timeless staple. The last look is pretty fun. Again I just paired a shirt over the sheath dress to create the look. This style of dress is so versatile. It can be worn as a stand alone item or pair it with your favorite t-shirt, cardigan, or button up shirt to show that the dress can be styled as a separate also.

Day to Night Looks with Sheath Dresses

With this series, I wanted to show you all that as long as you have the essentials in your wardrobe, you can create a multitude of looks. Never splurge on trends, and you should never have a closet full of trendy items. Stick with the basics to create classic and timeless looks. Add certain trends, not all, for a more fun look and also a look that defines your personality.

I see these fashion challenges all over the internet and thought it would be cool to try one. I’ve seen challenges where bloggers choose 30 items including shoes, bags and accessories and only wear those 30 items for the entire month. I am putting a little twist on this challenge. I chose 8 items including not including accessories and decided to style 12 looks. So for the next week you will see different ways to style the following pieces

8 Wardrobe Essentials

So for the first look I paired a black sheath dress, with a blue and white striped t-shirt, and a pair of red flats. This look is for a casual day at work. Sometimes our feet need a break from the heels so flats are a necessity. I chose red to add a pop of color to the look. I also included other accessories like a black handbag, which all women should own, reader glasses (prescription or fashion) and a pair of pearl earrings. Most people I know love Starbucks, I’m more of a Dunkin Donuts type girl, but you get the picture.

Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies. I cook a lot and I use the same ingredients repeatedly. Like in the kitchen your wardrobe should have main options that bring a certain flavor to your particular style. No matter your style these are a few things I feel should be in every man’s closet.

The Jean

Ahh denim. Nothing beats putting on your favorite pair: broken in, distressed, fits like a glove. So many options from high end like 7 For All Mankind & Nudie to more affordable like Banana Republic & Diesel (my personal faves). If you arer like me you have many but there’s that one pair you constantly go back to, a must have.

The Button Down

The most versatile piece of clothing you can own. It can be worn with khakis, your favorite jean, under a casual sweater, your favorite suit, or on a casual date, at work or when you want to look somewhat preppy. The options vary the same from gingham to stripes to plaids. If your trying to look good then these are needed.

The Cardigan

Every man should have one. If you don’t stop reading and click here. Like the button down the look is as limitless as your vast mind. It can be paired with jeans or slacks. Can be worn for work or play. Over a dress shirt or t-shirt. Shawl neck, double breast, toggle front, merino wool, cotton, lambswool I can just go on and on but the point is clear.

The Suit

Was never big on suits, actually never owned one til 6 years ago. Why is it necessary? If you ever want to be taken seriously you will look to invest in one of these (unless that slacks & Pradas look is akin to your heart). Interview, business dinner, black tie affair the right suit will impress far more than your “witty” banter. Lucky for you (not for them) Syms is going out of business and suits are practically being given away. Depending on your shirt/tie combo you might only need one.

The Loafer

Now a sneaker-head like myself wishes I could wear my kicks all day everyday but I like to impress women from time to time. Like women, variety in your shoe game goes a long way. Pair with slacks for that office look or with a nice slim jean on that 1st date. Comfort is key which is why Cole Haan is my choice (this Nike owned company has Nike Air technology built in their shoes).

Like when you’re hungry you can fall back on that cereal & milk, well when your getting dressed make sure these options are always available.

Despite what the date says it is winter. Yes I know it does not officially start until December 21 (or is it the 20th?) but the temperatures that we’ve been having lately say otherwise. Here is a list of winter basics that will keep you warm and toasty during the my least favorite season.

  • Hat
  • Scarf
  • Gloves/Mittens
  • Long Sleeve T-shirts (Crew neck or v-neck to go underneath the chunky sweaters and cardigans
  • Chunky sweater/cardigan
  • Long socks (put the ankle socks away)
  • Warm boots (not necessarily UGGs)
  • Leggings/tights (wool or cable knit)
  • Chapstick (the blistering wind will dry out your lips quickly always stay moisturized)
  • Moisturizer
  • Winter coat

Remember to bundle up and stay warm!
