In the fashion industry today, high-end designers creating low-end lines with retailers like Target and H&M is becoming more and more popular. Now I haven’t been excited for a collab collection in quite some time, but I must say I am super excited for the Prabal Grubbing collection for Target. With this day and age, no matter the salary, we should always try to find ways to save money. Often times when we get our paychecks, a bonus, or find some extra cash we want to go out and splurge. Well I used to splurge a lot; this was before I actually had real bills. Now I am more conscious on how I spend my money. Every month I create a plan to see how I will spend my money. Sometimes things do not always go according to plan, but I try not to veer too far away from my budget.

When people hear the word budget they often cringe. A budget is not bad at all and everyone should have one. A budget is simply “telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” So here are a few of my budget basics

  1. Drugstore makeup! I have quite an impressive collection of makeup and many people think I spend tons of money on makeup. In all reality, some of my favorite eye shadows, lipsticks, blushes, and mascara are drugstore brands like Maybelline, CoverGirl, Revlon, and Milani. One thing that is great about drugstore makeup is that it is of great quality and there is always a coupon so you save even more!
  2. Use coupons! I am far from an extreme couponer but yes I use coupons! Saving a dollar here and there really adds up. I use coupons at supermarkets, department stores like Macy’s, drugstores like CVS, and beauty supply stores like Sally’s. Also before I shop online I always Google coupon codes for online retailers. I have had success with quite a few like getting free shipping or 20% off certain items. Try www.couponcodes.com to get started.
  3. Sample Sales! Every so often I post sample sales on the site. I try to post sales that are of brands that you all love and also in great price ranges. Most, if not all, of my designer jeans come from sample sales. There is nothing better than getting a pair of jeans for $50 that originally cost $150. I check sites like Daily Candy for sample sales quite often.
  4. Shop in Bulk! I buy most of my household items from BJs. Things like paper towels, lotion, deodorant, etc. can be purchased in bulk and it will always end up being cheaper. I also buy a lot of my snacks for home and work at BJs. When I bring my own food I do not have a reason to head to the vending machine or to go to the corner store. I also bring my own breakfast and lunch four days a week. I give myself one day to splurge.
  5. Invest in classics, go cheaper with trends! I think this is one of the most important shopping rules that is budget friendly. Every season there is a new it item, a new it color, a new must have bag, or a shoe that everyone “has to have.” Well 9 times out of 10 this it item will only last one, maybe two, seasons. When it comes to trendy items I would not splurge. I would go to stores like Forever 21, H&M, and even Target to get what is trendy. The quality is still good but you won’t regret spending $20 on a shirt or $50 on a shoe instead of buying the designer trendy piece that will cost you about $300. For inexpensive, yet comfortable trendy shoes, try sites like Shoe Dazzle and Just Fab.
  6. Check your points! If you have reward cards or get points for using your debit/credit card check to see if you get points and the perks of getting those points. With certain rewards cards you can get money back. So, utilize your points!

These are my budget basics. What are some of your money saving tips?

This Sunday the New England Patriots and New York Giants will go head to head for the greatest title in football, Super Bowl Champions. This exciting sporting event will be watched in sports bars and homes in front of 52″ flat screens. I’m sure many of you have been invited to at least one super bowl party, even if it is at your neighbor’s house across the hall. So just in case you need a little help on finding the perfect outfit, I created three looks for you. Keep the sweat pants in the closet, they won’t be needed. Check them out…

I wanted to create looks that are fashionable and chic, but not over the top. You do not want to be in a sports bar in 5 inch heels, unless that is your everyday attire of course. The men probably won’t be paying attention to your outfit anyway, but still you should always look your best.

Stick with casual pieces like skinny jeans, cardigans, or simple pull-over sweaters. As far as the footwear is concerned, I would rock a military style combat boot, riding boot, or wedge boot. Stilettos and platforms can be left in the closet for vday.

Which look will you try to recreate?

Let the collaborations of 2012 begin! So first up is Jason Wu for Target. Jason Wu first received notoriety when he designed the dress for FLOTUS during the Inaugural Ball. Well on February 5, 2012 Jason Wu and Target will probably cause another internet meltdown. You can most definitely expect tons of lady-like dresses from this collection. This is the perfect time to get ready for spring!

A few images have been released of the collection. When the full lookbook is released you know you’ll see it here first!

So after a STRESSFUL Friday and Saturday (I’ll leave my work problems alone) I decided I’d join one of my friends at Brother Jimmy’s for a late birthday celebration. I celebrated my birthday at Brother Jimmy’s this year so I did not hesitate to join the fun. As usual there was a table full of “swamp water” and of course some really amazing barbecue. I had barbecue wings and fries and the wings were AMAZING!! When I say amazing I mean it. They were well seasoned and so juicy. The rub and sauce used made the wings taste like ribs. Since Brother Jimmy’s is a sports bar and is very relaxed I went with a simple look. (Photo taken with phone…sorry)

What I Wore

  • Watch & Black sweatshirt/tunic-not sure what to call it because it can be worn multiple ways N ew York and Co. I also have this top in red. They are so comfortable. You get the feel of a sweatshirt, but it is more stylish.
  • Denim Shorts Levi’s via Macy’s
  • Purple Opaque Tights Xhiliration via Target
  • Black Riding Boots Steve Madden
  • Jewelry Random Jewelry Store in Manhattan

All of my friends thought I was crazy because I had on shorts in December. If this was like 3 years ago I would have never put them on, but I love wearing shorts all year round. Thank God for opaque tights, long coats and riding boots lol. Saturday wasn’t that chilly so I was really comfortable. I did get quite a few stares but I just smiled at everyone lol.

On another note, my hair is growing back beautifully. If you recall, I cut my hair in May because I wanted something different and I loved my little edgy asymmetrical cut, but I miss long hair, so I have embarked on a journey to get back to where my hair was in 2009/2010. Stay tuned for those updates.
