This week our favorite celebs were out and about looking simply amazing! The first up for this week’s style recap is Thandie Newton

I love her unorthodox bun and the vibrant print dress. She looks great.

The accessories are what stole my heart in this photo. Tyra accessorized her black jumpsuit with simple purple pumps and a multicolored belt. Vibrant colors against black is always a great pairing (if done correctly like Ms. Banks)

Lala Vazquez, Kelly Rowland, Amber Riley, and Ciara made the list this week.

Check out what they wore…

Its the new year, so ladies it is time we take our style to the next level. Before we elevate, we must make sure we have the key pieces that are the foundation of any woman’s wardrobe. With these basics you will have the essentials for the following:

  • A job interview
  • Lunch/Brunch with friends
  • A black tie affair
  • A date
  • A job interview or business meeting

So here are the basics (in no specific order)

  1. A sharp white shirt that suits your figure
  2. Light weight cardigan
  3. A jacket or blazer that can be paired with pants or a skirt to form a suit
  4. Pants/Trousers: denim, tailored for the day time, and a pair of black trousers that can go from day to night
  5. LBD- Little Black Dress
  6. A skirt that suits your figure (pencil skirts are not for everyone, try an a-line skirt if you are a full-figured diva)
  7. A round-neck top which is a dressy alternative to a t-shirt
  8. Selection of t-shirts or tanks that can be dressed up or dressed down. (Go for tops with slight embellishment)
  9. Essential shoes: a good boot, ballet flats, black pumps, an evening shoe
  10. A good quality handbag

Once you have these basic items, you have the foundation of a stylish wardrobe. Until next time, happy shopping and happy styling.

As you all know, Angela and Vanessa are two of HGBs favorites. They are always on point.

Effortless Style

January 16, 1979- August 25, 2001

Fashion Director Karen Kozlowski gives her expert advice in an interview with Lloyd Boston. This is what Kozlowski had to say about developing your personal style:

1. What are the three fashion essentials every well-dressed woman should own?

  1. The best-quality black suit
  2. A neutral colored cashmere sweater (turtle or crewneck)
  3. Simple black shift dress

Kozlowski says all these are timeless pieces that can be worn at least three season and can be dressed up or down, and updated with a simple switch of accessories.

2. What are the biggest mistakes women make when getting dressed?

  1. Wearing clothes that don’t fit properly! A size 8 in one brand is not necessarily going to be the same in another. Try everything on and if you’re between sizes, conserd taking the garment ot a tailor who can fit it correctly

3. If you could whisper a fail-safe style tip into the ears of women everywhere, withouot them feeling bad by hearing it, what would it be?

  • Stop trying to cover perceived body flaws with ill-fitting clothing. Of course nothing looks good on everyone but there are cuts and styles of clothing that work with everyone’s particular bodoy shapes. And it is all about using color, pattern, and proportion to give you the most streamlined, flattering silhouette. Don’t hide under oversized clothing-embellish and embrace your shape!
