“Who said that salads can’t be hot?” *Blank Stare, Confused BBM faces*
Ok there are sooooo many things wrong with this commercial. I have so many thoughts and questions….here is my list…
1. Why isn’t she using a fork? It is salad…who really eats lettuce and chicken (that’s not fried, a wingette, or a tender) with their fingers (BARBARIANS and people with no home training)
2. Did they really have to zoom in on her lips and breast like that with the dripping the salad dressing? (Not necessary and kind of ruins my appetite)
3. Do you really eat grilled chicken salads while taking a bubble bath? I could understand a few pieces of fruit (with a fork or some utensil)….and then again I come back to my point of her not using a fork….soap suds and salad yummmm *sarcasm*
4. Is this really a good tactic to get people to eat salad? What would you really say if you saw a person eating like this? I would just stare….
5. Salad is not even a “sexy” food dish
This is when selling sex goes way tooooo far. Selling salad? What’s next toilet paper? I hope not

Ok so here is my list of what is wrong with this picture and why I am fed up!
I will say though their makeup is FLAWLESS. The contouring of the cheeks is ON POINT!! Kudos to the makeup artist! Other than that this pic is an #epicfail (IMO)
So this past Tuesday, November 24, 2009, BET Premiered the first episode of its new webseries called “Buppies” (Black Yuppies) starring Tatyana Ali. I watched the six minute episode and I must say I was disgusted. I think it was the worst six minutes of my life! I know some of you are like “why did you watch the entire show then?” I was honestly praying that it would get better! I posted the video below so make sure you watch it before you read my commentary. I don’t want to “spoil” anything *rolls eyes*
Ok hopefully you watched it because I am going to tell you how I really feel. Ok so BET is supposed to be Black Entertainment Television, but as a black woman, I am not entertained. I was appalled and offended that the network that is supposed to represent me produced such a low budge, distasteful show about African-Americans in Hollywood. This show was full of so many stereotypes it wasn’t even funny. So here are my reasons why I am infuriated with BET and if you work there please tell the execs they are doing a horrible job. I know BET is owned by a Viacom which is a white company, but are you that much of an “Uncle Tom” that you allow your own people to be viewed in such a stereotypical and negative light. It is 2009 and for a network that is supposed show the beauty, uniqueness, and diversity within MY culture, I am subjected to watch this crap?!?! I didn’t think it was possible to cover so many stereotypes in so little time, but BET proved me wrong.
1. Why is the corporate lawyer also a “rapper” I’m sorry but I never heard Johnny Cochran on a mixtape. Why would they down play such an honorable profession and make a black man want to pursue a “rap career”
2. Why did the darkest girl on the show have to be the most ignorant, uneducated, “bird” chick? Like seriously, how can you not know that Harry Belafonte is black. Why did she have to be a rap heiress and have a ghetto party with guys playing dice, smoking weed, getting drunk, and girls shaking their butts all over the place? Is that the only image we portray? Is that how you, BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION, view your target population/demographic? If so, where is W.E.B DuBois and Booker T. Washington when you need them!
3. So you had to throw “sports” in there because that is the only way we are going to get out of “the hood” right? We are not educated enough to pursue careers in fields of medicine, education, law enforcement, graphic design, architecture, or culinary arts right? We have to either play basketball, football, soccer or any other sport or sell drugs to get out huh? I will be honest this was subtle because instead of making this African-American male an athlete, you made him a sports agent. SMH
4. The lightest female in the group had to act stoosh huh? Because she is lighter she is better I suppose? She was the one who spoke proper English and everyone else who was darker wasn’t as proper as she.
This was a horrible rendition of Cluelessbecause that’s exactly what this show appeared to be, with the exception that they are all adults instead of high school students. Tatyana Ali, girl I loved you as Ashly on the Fresh Prince, but I guess because of this recession times are hard, but this is so beneath you! BET, please do better. You are one of our only outlets within media and so please represent us in a better light! This was just unacceptable. Maybe you should change the name of the network from BET:Black Entertainment Television to Tom Foolery and Coonery Station, or WET: White Entertainment Television because you are not entertaining black people. So please think about the images and messages you are producing and sending out to the world, because you are blind sided and have no clue what it means to be black.
You can catch a new episode of Buppies every Tuesday at 3pm. Hopefully you will be engulfed with work that you won’t have six minutes to waste.
Ok so Halloween was Saturday and many people took advantage of the costume gimmick to be racially offensive. I don’t know about any of you, but this is not amusing to me at all. I saw about 5 different pics of Caucasians in black face (some were taken with African-Americans) and they are just “shuckin and jivin” laughing and smiling like its not a problem. Am I missing something? Is this becoming socially acceptable? This is blatant disrespect of my culture. I know they say history repeats itself, but seriously I am not about to go down the same road our ancestors and civil rights leaders faught and died for in order for me to be accepted and treated “equally” People are probably saying “Nique, it’s just a costume, it is not that serious” but tell that to the student who was sent home from school because he was white and came dressed as a mammy. We can’t keep ignoring this blatant disrespect. We have come to far, although many people are setting us back decades, I am not reliving the past. I saw a white woman dressed as Little Wayne and another as T-Pain. So what does that say about the entertainers and how they are representing our culture? (I think T-Pain is a fool anyway, but that’s not my point). If we keep brushing off these subtle acts of racism then it won’t be long before we are reliving the past.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding these ads and also Tyra’s use of black face on one of the recent episodes of ANTM. Fashion or not this is not acceptable. If you want to have the image of a black and a white model in some type of conflict….HIRE A BLACK MODEL. Please spare me the “deep down inside they want to be like us. They tan their skin, get breast and butt implants, they try to dress like us, and they even want our men, so I take this as a compliment….blah blah blah.” Save it and stop being ignorant. Yes we have many attributes that Caucasian women would like, but still instead of PERPETRATING and IMITATING us, appreciate us and give us the respect we deserve.

Cassie has already been dragged through the mud from these pics and he thinks it is acceptable to have her relive that moment. Sure the pics have circulated the internet and everyone has seen them, so as Heidi would say in the fashion world he’s “OUT”
I guess he needs attention since he can’t make any money with autotune, but come on, you are a grown man (still don’t believe he is 24) have some respect.
It is ok if you want to be trendy. There are subtle ways to incorporate the various trends of the Fall into your wardrobe, but please do not incorporate 4 or 5 trends at the same time.
If you incorporate too many trends like Lindsay Lohan: 1. You look like you are trying way toooo hard to be stylish 2. You look a mess 3. You look a mess. She has on this season’s motorcycle jacket, the over-the-knee boot, the embellished headband, and bright neon colored dress. She has all of the right elements for a fashionable fall wardrobe but she did not need to wear them all together. Lose the headband definitely. The dress is an awkward length and does not compliment the boot and vice versa. The jacket can stay, but yeah Lindsay I need you to work this out ASAP.

What happened to a good old fashion apology? My emotions were running high at the Garden, but I wasn’t jumping over barricades to get on stage. You are trying to use your emotions as an excuse, just like you told Leyomi…Be a woman, stop acting like a bird. I could understand if like a million artist from NY were walking to the stage but it was just you. You actually got out of your seat (probably somewhere in the back) and walked on the stage. You wanted publicity, now you got it, too bad its not positive. We can control our emotions we just choose not to.
Dr. Dre looks kind of uncomfortable. I don’t if its because in the back of his head he’s thinking “wow this is really a hermaphrodite” or if its the Pepto Bismol Tights/Boots…
I love SJP (Sara Jessica Parker for those of you who don’t know) but these looks in from SATC 2 (Sex And The City 2) are not pleasing. She is definitely a trend setter and a lot of women base their style on Carrie Bradshaw even though she is a fictional character. So now when I go to the city I’m going to see middle age women wearing midriffs…
