Yesterday Minister Chaparro gave a great message for Palm Sunday and Consecration Week. This is the holiest week in the Christian Faith and one of the things that he said really hit home with me. He said

Responsibility is the key to maturity.

Responsibility- the state or fact of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for something within one’s power, control, or management.

Accepting responsibility is the key to maturity because you are being held accountable for the decisions you make in your life. Being irresponsible shows a lack of growth. It also shows that you are willing to blame your situations and circumstances on other people. God is not going to hold anyone else accountable for your actions. When you are a child and easily influenced it was ok to say “he made me do it” but when you grow and are able to make decision by thinking critically you can’t say anyone made you do anything because you had to make the final decision.

We have to be held accountable for our own lives.

1 Corinthians 13:11 states When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

Age does not determine the level of maturity; actions are what determines a level of maturity, and one of those actions is responsibility. So this week let us hold ourselves accountable for the decisions we make to continue to grow.
