Devastation in Haiti

posted by:

The earthquake in Haiti has caused an insurmountable amount of damage. Haiti is already one of the poorest places in the world and to have this type of catastrophe is extremely devastating. My prayers go out to those of you who have lost loved ones or are unable to reach your family members. Yes this is a very traumatic experience, but maybe with all of the relief effort, Haiti can rebuild and become better than what it was. For information on how you can help contribute to the relief efforts please visit www.redcrossblood.org

“We are not accepting volunteers to travel to Haiti. If you would like to volunteer for the American Red Cross, please contact your local chapter. For inquiries about relatives living and who have citizenship in Haiti, please be patient and call repeatedly until the lines clear or contact other family members who live nearby. Telephone, Internet and other communication lines are often disrupted in times of disaster. People trying to locate U.S. citizens living or traveling in Haiti should contact the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747 or 202-647-5225.”

You can help the victims of countless crises around the world each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need. Donations to the International Response Fund can be sent to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013 or made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish) or online at www.redcross.org.

Wyclef Jean has also began relief efforts. yesterday he took to Twitter asking everyone to text “YELE” to 501501 and $5 will be charged to your phone bill.

This is our chance to make a change and help those in need.

Motivation Monday: It Is Never Too Late To Start

posted by:

I think that 2010 is going to be a great year! I can honestly say that I have never been this motivated ever! I always get excited for the new year and for a new day, but there is something that is happening that I can’t explain for 2010. So yesterday at church, Pastor Bernard spoke about getting focused, changing your thought life and thinking critically. He also spoke about the 6 areas of demands on our life. Each of these areas are pulling at us all at the same time. Those areas are:

  1. Spiritual
  2. Educational
  3. Health
  4. Social
  5. Financial
  6. Family

In order to get control of this tug-of-war we need to clearly define our goals. The clearer the goal, the stronger it is in your life. Pastor Bernard said “I go to sleep so I can get up.” Meaning he goes to sleep so that he can get up the next day to work towards accomplishing the goals he has set for himself. He also spoke about the purpose of day and evening. The evening is the period of rest so that you can gain the momentum and strength to take on the next day. It seems simple, but many people don’t rest in the evening. They are busy bees and we all need time to recuperate. People always say “I’ll rest and sleep when I’m dead” well you are overworking yourself and that will lead to an early grave.

Your goals determine your focus and without goals  you do not have a focus and you are allover the place. Where ever you focus your life it brings strength and momentum. When you lack focus you lack strength and momentum. He also mentioned that people always say “strengthen my faith” but what does that really mean? You cannot sincerely have faith without a goal because what do you need strength for?

All throughout service so many things were running through my head. I went home did the things for my usual Sunday routine and then I wrote my goals for the 6 areas of demand on my life. Some of my goals include:

  1. Reading my bible more and writing in my prayer journal more frequently
  2. Read more books that are not work or school related (for personal growth and entertainment)
  3. Workout at least 3x a week. (I started last week)
  4. Spend more time with my friends, not only on birthdays
  5. Spend less money on food during the week (bring my lunch to work, buy oatmeal or cereal when it is on sale to take for breakfast)
  6. Spend more quality time with my family (sister and brother in particular)

So like the title says, it is never too late to start. Let this be your starting point. Start off by writing at least one goal for each of the areas of demand on your life. Then implement a plan of action and get to work. Remember it is never too late to start.

So a few weeks ago there was a huge controversy over Willow Smith’s Rihanna-esque hair cut. Many people disapproved of the  look saying that Willow is too young to rock such an edgy look (she’s 9 yrs old) so Essence.com got an exclusive interview with Marcia Hamilton and got the Inside Scoop on Willows cut…

“Willow’s cut was a decision made between her and Jada, and I executed their vision,” says Hamilton. “Willow’s a fierce little girl with energy, imagination and spunk. We wanted to give her a look that represented all of those things, and was easy to care for. Once I started cutting, Willow actually requested the clippers! Look, it’s 2010. Can’t our little girls move into the future without ruffling feathers? The look is fun, empowering, anti-relaxer and anti-weave. More women need to steer their little girls in this direction. If your child is a forward-thinker, you should guide her instead of smothering her.” via Essence.com

I think the cut is a little too edgy for a 9 year old, but she is not my daughter. What is she in like 4th grade? I think some things are just a little too inappropriate, but in Hollywood anything goes. I do agree with allowing a child to express themselves creatively through their style, but when they are a bit older and have a better understanding of themselves, the world around them, and their place in the world. At 9 you think it is all about fun and a Hollywood 9 year old is not the same as a “normal” 9 year-old. Hamilton’s point about the cut being anti-relaxer and anti-weave…9 yr olds shouldn’t wear weaves either in my opinion of course. The cut is cute in general, but at that age I don’t feel it is appropriate and there are also many limitations when it comes to “style” in the “real world” not necessarily “Hollywood.” Parents and people need to keep that in mind.

“Sex Sells?”

posted by:

I meant to post this a while back, but the recent pics of Kim Kardashian for Ocean Drive was a great reminder. So tell me what is being sold in the video you are about to see…(only if you have access to youtube)

Who said that salads can’t be hot?” *Blank Stare, Confused BBM faces*

Ok there are sooooo many things wrong with this commercial. I have so many thoughts and questions….here is my list…

1. Why isn’t she using a fork? It is salad…who really eats lettuce and chicken (that’s not fried, a wingette, or a tender) with their fingers (BARBARIANS and people with no home training)

2. Did they really have to zoom in on her lips and breast like that with the dripping the salad dressing? (Not necessary and kind of ruins my appetite)

3. Do you really eat grilled chicken salads while taking a bubble bath? I could understand a few pieces of fruit (with a fork or some utensil)….and then again I come back to my point of her not using a fork….soap suds and salad yummmm *sarcasm*

4. Is this really a good tactic to get people to eat salad? What would you really say if you saw a person eating like this? I would just stare….

5. Salad is not even a “sexy” food dish

This is when selling sex goes way tooooo far. Selling salad? What’s next toilet paper? I hope not

Lol ok here are photos from Kim K’s photo shoot for Ocean Drive

Is Being Single Difficult?

posted by:

Ok I am no relationship guru but I had to share my thoughts on this subject. This post was inspired by a woman named Neenah from New Jersey who set out to find a husband in 52 weeks. She was not successful…smh. We have all been single at some point in our lives and I want to know if you feel it is difficult. Some people must have a companion at all times. Without a man or a woman they do not feel complete. Is that a problem? Why must people always be in a relationship? When do they have time for themselves? When do they allow themselves time to truly love themselves and learn who they really are?

Would you rather be in a negative relationship for the sake of having a relationship or would you rather wait until your ideal mate comes along & be happy? I think people who constantly need to be in a relationship settle for the first or second person that shows interest. They really do not have a connection, but for the sake of saying I have a girlfriend or a boyfriend that enter or stay in unhealthy relationships.

Many people in these types of relationships are very unhappy and afraid to be alone. They should really evaluate themselves and find the real problem. How are you being fulfilled in a relationship if you are not happy? How are you helping your mate improve himself or herself? What are your intentions for being in that relationship?

If you learn how to truly love yourself you will learn how to love others. You learn how to love yourself by understanding God’s love because his love is unconditional and perfect. Once you realize why and how God love’s you, your thoughts about yourself will change and how you love others will change alss. How you let others love you will change as well.

Neenah’s first mistake was trying to find her husband when she should let him find her. She went on about 40 dates in 52 weeks. That is excessive I think. Does she really know what she wants? Why the extreme attempt? Love will happen when you least expect it (so I’ve heard). When you stop looking that is when love will come. Focus on loving God and loving yourself. Take yourself out to see a movie. Treat yourself to lunch. Visit a museum or an art gallery. Do something that is pleasurable to you and you may bump into Mr. or Mrs. Right when you least expect it :-)

On To The Next One-Official Video Jay-Z feat. Swizz Beatz

posted by:

Ok so I think everyone has heard about Jay-Z being a Free Mason and a part of the illuminati. I’ve seen videos and heard clips about what each Blueprint represents and that he is satanic and a devil worshipper and the Roc Symbol is the symbol of the illumnati…blah blah blah. I am not saying that it is true or false, but there are A LOT OF COINCIDENCES. Anyway, after watching the “On to the next one” video I really think Jay-Z has pretty much caught on to the hype that is building around him being a devil worshipping satanic free mason (if that makes sense).

This video is really ridiculous. Now all of you  know that I am a die hard Jay-Z fan. His lyrics are incredible and no one can deny the fact that this man single handedly transcended hip-hop, but this video is not what’s poppin. Ok you may want to be more blatant now,  because people are speculating your alterior motives, but this video is actually pretty scary. I’m not a fan of skulls or black lipstick with really pale skin (Marilyn Manson scary) and the black smoke with the “special” images. I mean artistically the video is AMAZING but other than that #ontothenextone. The video has nothing to do with the song at all so Mr. Carter what are you “on” in this video MDMA (ecstacy)? Jay-z is a very smart and strategic man and I’m pretty sure he did this video to get the people talking to add to the speculation of his role with the free masons and possibly the illuminati.

I don’t think that he is really this crazy to put out a video that pretty much confirms what people have been speculating. He is probably going to say that this is “art” but #cmonson it is clear that you may have some alterior motives. Maybe he got to a point where he is like you know what I don’t care I am a free mason and what? What can you possibly do to me? Lol Jay is hilarious for this one! I hope this was a joke the he is playing on all of the people who continue to speculate.

What are your thoughts?

Happy New Year everyone! This is a fresh start! I encourage all of you to write down your goals and implement an action plan. Without a target what could you possibly focus on? So lets try to make this year better than the last. Sure you will face disappointment and you may even be discouraged, but remember God will make a way. Keep him first and you will be blessed. Once again, have a great new year! Let us start off the year right! Be positive and have a positive attitude. Remember your attitude determines your approach and your approach determines your success or failure. So what is your attitude for 2010? How will you approach the new year? Be blessed!

In 2010…

posted by:

Ok so this is the last day of 2009…and I am excited for 2010!!!! So a few days ago I compeleted my vision board for 2010 and I wrote out what I will and will not do or will be and will not be in 2010 in regards to my character. I’ve learned that if things are written down on paper I have a greater chance of following them. I can post them places where I would see it everyday to keep me focused on my goals for my character. I am not calling them resolutions because I think it is such a negative connotation with that word. By the end of January or February some people are less motivated and they do not accomplish half of what they said they wanted to. So here is my list along with some pics of me and family and friends from 2009. In the comments section let me know what your goals for the new year are!

In 2010 I will not…

  1. Lose my faith
  2. Worry about other people (If I worry what sense does it make that I pray?)
  3. Be disorganized
  4. Have a negative attitude
  5. Be idle
  6. Be a procrastinator (I’m serious this time lol)
  7. Be selfish
  8. Put my wants before my needs
  9. Be impatient
  10. Be a SHOPAHOLIC (Are you happy now ma? lol)
  11. Be unreasonable
  12. Be inconsistent
  13. Be all talk and no action
  14. Say yes to everyone alllll of the time (smh)
  15. focus or associate myself with people with negative attitudes
  16. Be judgmental
  17. Do something that I do not want to do to please other people
  18. Be unhealthy or out of shape
  19. Live an imbalanced life
  20. Be intolerant but I will not tolerate crap!

In 2010 I will…

  1. Have more faith and continue to put all my trust in God
  2. Understand and appreciate my  blessings
  3. Continute to educate myself
  4. Focus on what is important to me
  5. Be more courageous
  6. Be more organized
  7. Live a balanced life
  8. Manage my time better
  9. Be prepared
  10. Eat more healthy foods and exercise
  11. Jave a positive attitude
  12. Stick to a budget (I am not a celebrity and I do not need to live like one…my outcome should not exceed my income)
  13. Be more selfless
  14. Choos my friends and associates wisely (2009 really taught me this lesson)
  15. Build more positive relationships
  16. Be more patient
  17. Be consistent
  18. Be reasonable
  19. Exercise spiritual discernment
  20. Be more appreciative

In 2010 I will be finished with my Master’s Program woooohooooo prayerfully June 2010!! I am so proud of myself! There are also great things in store for HerGoodyBag! I will wait until after the New Year to share that news :-) I am truly excited. Good Bye 2009…It’s been real, but I am excited for 2010!!!!
