I have a love hate relationship with this style, whether it is a dress, skirt, or even top. This is not a look that everyone can wear so please read on to see which body types fit the drop waist look the best. I was on Essence.com and saw actress Octavia Spencer rocking a drop waist dress. Now I love me some Octavia Spencer but this dress was just all wrong for her body type.

dropwaistNow the color looks great on her, but the proportions are all wrong. When it comes to fashion proportions are key. I mean that’s one of the main critiques that the designers get on Project Runway from the judges. If the portions are off you begin to highlight challenging areas or you create a look that disrupts the flow of your outfit. In this dress her legs look shorter than what they are and  she looks boxy.

I wanted to purchase the drop waist dress from the Prabal Gurung for Target collection, but I didn’t because I just looked awkward lol.

Drop waist dresses work best on people that have shorter torsos and smaller hips. Women who are petite should avoid drop waist dresses because you will appear shorter. If you have a wide or round midsection avoid the drop waist dress because you will accentuate that area.

I think shorter hemlines work best with drop waist dresses and skirts. The longer hemlines seem to make people look frumpy.

Would you rock a drop waist dress?

This weekend the Red Carpet was definitely hot. From the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards to the 2013 BET Honors. We were blessed with some great fashion. Here are a few of my favorite looks from the Red Carpet over the weekend.

2013 BET Honors

Kelly Rowland, Gabrielle Union, Ledisi

These ladies gave us high splits, plunging necklines, and sequin in shades of green and black

Brandy, Halle Berry, Alicia Keys

Body hugging gowns and high splits again. Halle Berry is loving prints this award season, and black is always classic

70th Annual Golden Globes

NeNe Leakes, Adele, Eva Longoria

Black is always a staple on any Red Carpet. NeNe and Adele look a little to frumpy for the occasion. Eva Longoria is always ready to show  of her sex appeal and she does with this black gown.

These ladies have a case of the blues. I love Rosario’s dress, but wish the neckline wasn’t so high. Nicole Richie looks elegance in her blue lace dress, and Lucy Liu went bold with this floral ball gown

Jessica Alba, Gabby Douglas

It always great to see a pop of color on the red carpet and both Jessica Alba and Gabby Douglas went bold in peach and neon.

Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Kerry Washington

My winners of the night! I love the neutral tones on all gowns. I think Halle Berry’s print is striking! The hint of purple was an amazing touch. I’m loving the sheer nude looks from Jennifer Lopez and my all time favorite Kerry Washington. These ladies look amazing.

Who were your winners in the style department for the Red Carpet?

This weekend it was all about short dresses, long legs, and high heels! Reality TV star NeNe Leakes and actress Essence Atkins both show us how to rock this look with class.

NeNe Leakes stopped by the Jimmy Falon show, for what I have no clue, but she rocked a short black and white printed frock and a pair of patent leather pointy toe Christian Louboutin heels. I am not a fan of NeNe or any other RHOA star because I do not watch the show, but I must give credit when it comes this style choice.

style files 1I love how Essence Atkins mixed textures with her dress and her shoes for the opening of new film The Haunted House. It has been quite some time since we have seen the actress and she showed up and showed out with this look.

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey, the world’s leading questionnaire tool.

Happy Tuesday everyone! A lot has been going on in the fashion and beauty worlds lately. There have been collaborations galore! So let’s jump right in to all of the hot new collaborations in fashion and beauty.

First off, RHOA star NeNe Leakes unveiled her new shoe “The Nethia” through online shoe boutique Shoe Dazzle. If you aren’t familiar with Shoe Dazzle, you sign up and fill out a questionnaire based on your style preferences and then each month a selection of shoes are sent to your online boutique. Then you are able to choose what shoes you want to purchase for the month. NeNe’s shoe, The Nethia, will retail for $39.99 (like all of the other shoe dazzle shoes). It is a black and gold strappy platform heel. The straps are black lace and the platform and heel are gold along with a front zipper.

Rapper Azealia Banks has been making a lot of noise in the fashion world having collaborated with Alexander Wang. Although she is now starting to reach more of a mainstream audience, she is lining up some amazing deals. In today’s society people love those who are raw and uncut and that is definitely Azealia. She is now taking her talents over to the beauty industry and is teaming up with M.A.C. Cosmetics. September 5, 2012, the eve of Fashion’s Night Out, you will be able to purchase her lipstick “Yung Rupunxel” which is the name of her alter ego, online or in-stores for $15. The shade is described as a deep plum which is one of Banks’ signature lip colors. M.A.C. is no stranger to teaming up with female rappers. They have collaborated with Lil Kim for Viva Glam and also Nicki Minaj on her signature Pink Friday lipstick.

Last but not least Nylon Magazine has teamed up with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics to create the “Nylon” lip tar, a bubble gum pink with a neon twist. OCC is one of my favorite cosmetic brands and their lip tars are AMAZING. A little definitely goes a long way with lip tars. If you are on the hunt for a new bubble gum pink lip shade or just want to add something different to your beauty arsenal this product is for you. The lip tar retails for $16 and can be purchased at Sephora or by clicking here
