Yesterday I went to brunch with Melissa near Grand Army Plaza and decided to walk over to the Soldiers and Sailors Arch and Bailey Fountain since ti was so nice out to snap some pictures.

I was doing some online browsing and came across quite a few maxi dresses that I really liked. I already own quite a few, but I thought one or two additions wouldn’t hurt. Then I thought about a post on wearing a maxi dress to work and thought, well is it appropriate. My job is pretty relaxed and people wear just about anything (even t-shirts with holes smh) but no one really wears maxis.

Maxi dresses come in a variety of prints, patterns, styles and colors. The only commonality is the fact that they are ankle length or floor length. Some are extremely form fitting, others are more loose. Some expose your bare back, while others provide full coverage. Some are strapless, one-shoulder, or even halter.

I’ve seen women pair their maxi dresses with a blazer or cardigan to make it appropriate for the office. Some also layer t-shirts, crew necks, and vests. The you have the women who do not care at all and have everything hanging out. Depending on the culture of your work place, are maxi dresses work appropriate?

Hey ladies!

Memorial Day is quickly approaching and I know many of you have packed your bags and are on your way to Miami, Cancun, Myrtle Beach, Dominican Republic, or any other place with amazing weather during this time. Your Memorial Day outfits will probably be a bathing suit and a cover up-I know that would be my attire if I was surrounded by beautiful beaches.

In NYC it is supposed to be 80 degrees which is amazing. I just hope it does not rain! It has been raining constantly for the past few days and it’s a little depressing. So my fingers are crossed and prayers are sent up for beautiful weather this weekend. For those of us keeping it local, or any place that is not near a beach, here are some outfit ideas.

Memorial Day Outfit Ideas

Outfit #1 I love wearing skirts. Whether they are in bold bright colors, fun Aztec or tribal print, or even in great textures like lace, there is a skirt that fits everybody type and style. For Memorial Day weekend pair a solid color skirt with a fun printed blouse like the first look. Or pair a lace skirt with a simple tank. I would avoid dark/dull colors for this weekend, especially if it is sunny. Try a tank in a bright neon color. Last but not least pair a cropped top with a flowy printed skirt. If you are really bold, try mixing prints and textures.

Outfit #2 I paired some neon printed shorts with a neon top. This look is not for the faint at heart. You have to be confident to pull this look off because it will definitely draw attention. If this is too much color for you, then perhaps pairing the shorts with a white t-shirt will work. You still get the impact of the color from the shorts, but you are more toned down up top.

Outfit #3 Simple look for the t-shirt and jeans type of girl. Instead of jeans I paired the printed tank with polka dot shorts. If shorts aren’t your thing, you can easily swap them for a pair of your favorite jeans. I would rock the tank with a pair of distressed straight leg, skinny, or boyfriend jeans.

Outfit #4 Last but not least, the collection would not be complete without a dress. Here I have two simple dresses paired with statement wedges and a statement necklace. The dresses are so versatile they can be dressed up or dressed down. If you want more comfort, swap the wedges out for a flat sandal. For a sportier look, pair the dresses with some converses or other casual sneakers.

These are only a few options. Hopefully the weather holds up!

Here are other items you could wear as well: printed dresses, maxi skirts, neon skinny jeans, sheer blouses, cropped tops, rompers and jumpsuits

This is what I wore on Saturday to the Brooklyn Stone Boutique for the FSL Cosmetics event. The weather in NYC on Saturday was terrible! It was very chilly, humid, and there were scattered thunderstorms throughout the day. I knew I didn’t want to wear jeans because I just didn’t feel like it, so I put on my favorite maxi dress/skirt (it can be worn either way) with a denim cropped top and my clog sandals and went on my way.
