Hey my loves!

Next week Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday, and I have some amazing fashion and beauty deals for you all this year. This is the beginning of the holiday shopping season. While some people shop all year round for the holidays, majority of the people, including myself, wait until after Thanksgiving to really get things going.

Here are a few tips before you head out to your favorite shops for your favorite deals.

  1. Make a list! You have to be prepared. This is not the time to go and browse the stores casually. You need to have a plan. You will no exactly what stores to go to and what items you will purchase from the stores. So grab those newspaper circulars or print them out to create your list. You can also prioritize and figure out which stores you will attend first  and what items you will try to grab as well.
  2.  Shop with a friend. Usually I like to shop alone but shopping with a friend during this time is a necessity. You guys can split up and divide and conquer! Ok that may be a little extreme, but you can each pick up the items you need in half of the time. Also you can wait on line in shifts.
  3. Wear comfortable clothing. I would suggest something that you can maneuver in easily, so layers are perfect. Comfortable jeans and knit leggings are essentials. I would go with leggings and some flat riding boots with zippers that will be easy to take off if I need to. Also wear a cross body bag to avoid holding your purse in your hand or on your arm. Lastly oversized cardigans, scarves and anorak jackets are great too. You can tie the jacket around your waist if you get a little warm and the cardigan is great for an additional layer of warmth.
  4. Be assertive, yet friendly. You want to be pleasant to the workers because this is an extremely stressful time and you want them to be as helpful as possible. You have to be assertive when it comes to the other customers. Do not get in to a fight, but if there is a deal that is a must have go for it!
  5. Set reasonable expectations for yourself. You may have 15 items on your list that you want to purchase, but you not be able to get those items, so be realistic on what you can actually accomplish, and also remember, what you do not get on Black Friday there is always Cyber Monday.
So, whether you are shopping on line, or standing in line at your favorite store to get the best deals we have something for you so check it out!

Happy Shopping!

This past weekend was my alma mater’s homecoming celebration. I had such a great time catching up with my old classmates and friends. Last week I did a post on what to wear to homecoming (click here for the post) and I went with a combination of two of the looks I created. I went with looks 1 and 2 for my homecoming ensemble.

I chose the leather leggings, motorcycle jacket, and cross body bag from this look

I chose the wedge sneakers and sweater from look #2

Here is my recreation of both looks

H&M: Hat, jacket, pants, and sweater Forever 21: Necklace, Rouge: Sneakers, Charming Charlie: chain link crossbody bag

I liked the edgy feel from the first look, but didn’t want to wear a graphic t-shirt because it was a little chilly, so I paired the look with a light weight sweater. I wanted to add a pop of color and also rep for my sorority so when I saw this hat in H&M I had to grab it. I got tons of compliments on my hat and look overall. So many people told me how much they loved the blog and I greatly appreciate each and every one of you who take the time to read. I went with the wedge sneakers from the second look because I wanted height, yet comfort.

So this is my look and I hope you all enjoy!

Wax On, Wax Off! Waxed Denim

What was that? What are waxed jeans? I’m glad you asked! Waxed jeans are just regular denim pants with a wax coating to add a different shine and texture to the material. Waxed jeans go by other names such as waterproof jeans, painted jeans, or black coated jeans as well. Waxed jeans are also very similar to leather pants. So if you want a more affordable option that allows your skin to breathe easier, then waxed jeans are definitely for you. They come in a variety of colors and I think the perfect cut would be a skinny jean or slim leg/straight leg jeans. To try the trend check out the options below.

There are also a number of DIY (Do It Yourself) tutorials on YouTube so check those out as well if you are in a creative mood!

For many of us, casual Fridays and casual summers come to an end after Labor Day. We are forced (to a certain extent) to wear more conservative/traditional things to work. Nowadays people have created this fine line with what is appropriate to wear to a place of employment. If there are no rules, by all means go and have fun, but for most people there is a dress code or at least a decency policy that many have thrown out of the window. For this look I wore an XOXO skirt from Macy’s, tank from H&M, and a jacket from Sears  (all items purchased eons ago, maybe not eons, but none of these items are in stores 🙁 )

The look is semi business casual, but the skirt is a little too tight in the hips and derrière, hence all of the bunching. I would never wear this to my place of employment. The tank, jacket, and shoes yes! The skirt, maybe if about 5 lbs magically disappeared, which would be my hips and butt, and that is not happening. The fit of the skirt would be better if it was a tad bit larger. Ladies, this is a perfect example of why fit is important!  You don’t want to constantly have to pull and tug at your clothing. So RIP to this skirt. You were loved by many!

Something must have been really funny as I was trying to run out of the middle of the street lol

Boat shoes (also known as deck shoes or topsiders) are typically canvas or leather with non-marking rubber soles designed for use on a boat. A siping pattern is cut into the soles to provide grip on a wet deck; the leather construction, along with application of oil, is designed to repel water.

The boat shoe made its comeback a few years ago, and soon after, a handful of designers  tweaked the sailor staple but not enough to kill its blue-blooded roots. Now we get Boat Shoes 3.0, a technicolor explosion that will only get you dirty looks off of New England. Talking tri-tone colorways, neon yellow soles, and jailhouse stripes. Sure, you can wear them with anything from khakis to seersucker for a shot of adrenaline. But think outside the prep and wear them with camo shorts, gray jeans, Supreme gear, mostly anything that might piss off a sailor enough to show you his dirty mouth.

Companies like Sperry Top-Siders, Sebago and H&M all make an affordable shoe. Some like to show off a little so you can step up a little to Ralph Lauren & Bally on a higher end. The boat shoe has been an American staple since Paul Sperry was inspired by his dog running on ice in 1935. Just like the times change so do styles and innovations are made. This is just another example.
