Hello my loves! Now that madness of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has calmed down and I survived my first full week of work I can now talk about one of the most amazing dinners that I have been to in quite a while.

Dinner With GLAM: Spring 2014

Last week I had the opportunity to attend my first “Dinner with Glam” event during New York Fashion Week. I have been a member of Glam’s network for quite some time now, but this was one event that I have always wanted to attend. So on Sunday September 8th I made my way to Morimoto NYC, one of the Foodie Top 100 restaurants in the world- owned by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, to enjoy an evening of great food and great company with so many familiar bloggers, models, Glam executives and social media mavens.

When Glam does an event they do it big and so we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. We started with cocktail hour where guests sipped on champagne, wine, or Glam specialty cocktails while we were served oysters, duck, dumplings, sushi, and more. There was a photo booth to take fun pics, but we also learned about Glam’s “Fashion Week Insider” App to stay up-to-date with the fashionable madness of New York Fashion Week.

During the event you had to tweet or instagram photos introducing the app to win two amazing prizes. The first prize was $750 to Christian Louboutin and the second was $500 to Morimoto NYC. Although I didn’t win, two of my table mates did Jessica of the Glamazons Blog and Melanie of O So Chic. Let’s just say that table 5 was envied throughout the night.

I can’t explain how amazing the food, the atmosphere, and the experience was at Morimoto. I will never look at sushi or seafood the same way because Morimoto NYC was just superb.

Glam loves their bloggers and on every seat was an Old Navy Tote Bag in an assortment of colors filled with goodies from Colgate, Dove, Pop Chips, Popcorn Indiana (DELICIOUS), Furterer, Make Up Forever, Goody hair products, Orbit, LORAC, Kerastase, KENZO and so many more great sponsors.

I had an amazing time and can’t wait to go through the Top 100 Restaurants to see where my next stop is going to be! Thank you to the Glam Media Team for another amazing event!

*Singing* Summer, summer, summertime, time to sit back and unwind”

Today will be 80 degrees in New York City and that just means we are headed toward my absolute favorite time of the year, SUMMER! I mean I look forward to the summertime because well, I have two months off from work. So who wouldn’t love that?

Last year's summer vacation with my main girls!! Always a good time with them!

Last year’s summer vacation with my main girls!! Always a good time with them!

The summer allows me to get out of hibernation. Sometimes in the Fall and Winter I do not have the energy to hangout, but the warm summer nights, day parties, beach parties, picnics, brunches, street fairs, pool parties, outdoor concerts and happy hours with my friends will definitely be something to remember.

This summer I will officially be heading back to school *womp womp* but the semester is only five weeks so I will still be able to have a little bit of fun. I am looking forward to my trip to Miami (Wet Willy’s and Fat Tuesdays anyone?) My summer will be pretty low-key until August then we will “Turn Up” as the cool kids say.

To kick off the summer a little early Smirnoff Sorbet is hosting the Stir Up Your Summer Soiree and I am super excited to attend. This will be the perfect girls night out and introduction to all of the summer fun! Stay tuned for the deets on that!

Are you excited for summer? What are your plans?

In January I had the opportunity to take part in an amazing panel discussion with some awesome people (click here for the recap). U by Kotex sponsored the event, and they wanted to break the silence about the misleading information when it comes to a woman’s body. We broke myths, exposed the truth, and vowed to empower others, especially young girls when it comes to learning and discussing about a woman’s body.

Many girls today get their information from their friends, television, the internet or social media. So you can imagine how much information is out there that can confuse a person. I remember growing up watching “The Cosby Show” and the episode that stayed with me was when Rudy got her period. A few of her friends came over and they shared with her every horror story you could think of. One myth that I still remember to this day is “You can’t go to the beach when you’re on your period or you’ll get attacked by sharks.” Let’s just say I didn’t want to go to the beach because I thought I was going to die. I knew that it was just a television show, and I should have gone to my mom or someone else that I trust to ask questions to make sure I wasn’t crazy, but I didn’t. I was too embarrassed and I know that’s how many girls feel now.

I now have a platform where I can help educate many people who are misinformed. Too often we pass up opportunities to help people, even when it is done indirectly. Small change is better than no change and if only one person receives the correct information from me then I believe I did my part.

Recently I was riding in the car and someone was using FaceTime and mentioned they needed panty liners. Instinctively I said “Keep that to yourself,” and they replied “Didn’t you do that Kotex forum? Remember we shouldn’t be embarrassed to share that information.” She was right and a wave of guilt hit me. It was like second nature for me to say keep that to yourself. We have to remove the stigma about getting our period. No one should feel embarrassed about that when it is a part of our nature. It shows that we are healthy women (young and old) with our bodies working properly. We should embrace it, even though PMS and cramps can get the best of us.

Take a look at how we plan to empower others

We have to Bust Myths, Speak the Truth, and Empower others to embrace their bodies and the many changes they will go through.

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Social Stylin’ Roundtable for U by Kotex Get With Generation Know campaign. Generation Know dares to change and challenge the world’s view on periods, vaginas, and females in general. Kotex ambassadors Dr. Vanessa Schick and Kat Lazo led the discussion about everything under the sun.

The day began with breakfast and hair and makeup by The House of Makeup. We were in full glam mode especially with our awesome eyelashes. After our glam session, it was time for the photo shoot. The photographer AJ was so funny and it was great shooting with him.

After the morning rundown, we set up for the reason we all gathered together that day, to have girl talk. This was such an amazing experience. The panel consisted of 12 bloggers (Caitlin Boyle-moderator) and 2 Kotex Ambassadors (Dr. Vanessa Schick and Kat Lazo). Although it was a little nerve racking with the camera, we covered so many topics from the media’s portrayal of women, the role of social media and self-image, the myths behind periods, and so much more. I don’t think I’ve said the word vagina so much ever in life! It was a little strange at first, but by lunch the strange feeling had subsided. It was great to talk and share our ideas without any fears or judgment. We shared our most embarrassing stories and even the nicknames that we have for vaginas. Thanks to Oprah, va-jay-jay, is very popular.

After our roundtable discussion we had an amazing three-course luncheon. It began with a Mediterranean chopped salad that looked to good to eat, but we all know that bloggers love to eat. Next, for the non-vegetarians, we had grilled brussels sprouts, grilled chicken breast, and scalloped potatoes. Lastly, for dessert we had a chocolate caramel pastry with blueberries. Just thinking about the food makes me want to find the chef who created such delectable dishes.

Once lunch we finished lunch, instagramming photos from our lunch, and catching up on social media, we had small group discussions to go further in to the conversation. We continued talking about busting myths, breaking the silence, and changing the message surrounding the female body and periods. These interviews were very candid and heart felt.

One thing that I took away from this day was the need to keeping the youth informed. Many girls find out information about their bodies from their peers or the media. Often times, this information is incorrect and misleading. We need to take more of a proactive approach with sharing our knowledge with the younger generation. It is a terrible feeling going around misinformed, so to protect the younger generation and ourselves we have to SPEAK UP and SPEAK OUT. We can’t be afraid to talk about what was once a taboo topic. That is the only way to break the silence. We have to share our knowledge and change the stigma surrounding females, vaginas, periods and more.

These three looks feature classic pieces that have been in major rotation in my wardrobe. Picture 1: Black Riding Boots Picture 2: Coctail Dress Picture 3: Black Maxi Skirt

As you get older you begin to mature and look at life from a different perspective. This may not be the case for everyone, but this definitely applies to my life. I have a confession to make…I used to be a binge shopper. I used to be a shopaholic. I know this is the case for many women, and some people do not even consider this a problem but it was for me.

While in college and a few years after I graduated I would spend my hard earned money on clothes and accessories. I wasn’t concerned with saving or paying any major bills because I “lived for the moment.” I would always end up at the mall and go from store to store racking up on all of the latest trends. Whenever I was going to a party or to dinner I would HAVE to buy a new outfit. Repeating looks was not my M.O. So I shopped, and I shopped, and I shopped. I would waste so much money on trends or things that I would wear only once. As I sit here and write this post, I think about all the money I could have saved and trips I could have taken if I was more responsible.

I guess this comes with growing up; you recognize your mistakes and you make better decisions. So out with the old and in with the new! I have learned to become a savvier shopper. I plan my purchases carefully. I’ve found that my wardrobe is more polished now that I plan my purchased. Before, my closet used to be filled with trends. I would have pieces that I wore once and never wanted to wear again. I would shop on impulse and end up wasting money because I would never wear some of the pieces. Now that I have a more defined style, I find buying pieces a lot easier. Also I can help my clients define their personal style and avoid making the same mistakes that I did.

Breaking my binge shopping habit was one of the best things that I could have done. My OLD ways of shopping were not healthy or productive. Now with my NEW found perspective my fashionable life is a lot less complicated.

What OLD habits have you broke? How were you made NEW?
