So I was fooled by the weather the other day. It was sunny and bright and I heard a lot of people outside so I said “It must be nice out.” Well the sun was out for about 26 seconds and then it started to rain. I was already out of the house and was not going back in to change. My shoes were not rain friendly, but I had to meet Melissa of O So Chic for our lunch date at Footprints for this rasta pasta that we have been dying for!

Because I thought it was nice I decided to wear my floral print jeans that I bought from Century 21 last August and a mint green top that I purchased from Forever 21. Take a closer look at What I Wore

These photos were snapped right before the rain storm came. We had to tie our scarves around our head and run in our heels to the car. It was funny. Oh and the highlight of the day, besides the food, was the guys playing basketball in the park BEGGING if they could be in our photos. One guy said to Melissa “Please can I take a photo with you, you can delete it later” I was in tears!

I’m getting better at this posing in the cold thing. I wish the spring weather would get here fast so I don’t have too lol.

Earlier this year I said I wanted to do more posts about fitness because let’s face it America is so unhealthy. It doesn’t matter which nationality you are obesity is killing Americans in general, it just so happens that African-Americans are being affected by it the most. When it comes to heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes we are plagued by these conditions the most.

This feature will deal with healthy living, whether it is a fat burning workout tip or healthy eating suggestions, we have to do better as a nation. I spend a lot of time talking about the apparel aspect of fashion, but none of our clothes will fit properly if we are not in shape. Notice I did not say skinny, I said in shape. So my goal with these segments is to improve the health and wellness of my readers and also myself. Of course there will be an element of fashion included because that’s just what I do. So check out today’s workout tips focusing on just getting started because that seems to be the hardest part.

Workout Tips of the Week

Tip #1 Make the Commitment- this seems to be the hardest, but first you must commit to living a healthier lifestyle

Tip #2 Assess your fitness level- most of the time we want to do the most intense workouts to get quick results but we can be doing damage to our bodies. Find out what your body can handle. Here are 4 fitness tests you can do in the comfort of your own home via Spark People (Click Here)

Tip #3 Set  Specific and Measurable Goals– do not set a goal that is too difficult because you will get discouraged. Examples of goals are: workout 5-minutes per day, work out 2-days per week, etc. Specific goals would be to do 20 squats 3-days per week. Here you can also determine the style of workout that you do. Currently I go to bootcamp at work (once every 2 weeks), take a dance class on Saturdays, and I’m working yoga in to my schedule.

Tip #4 Create a workout log- this will help you see your progress or track your progress. There are tons of apps now that you can download to your phone or your tablet. Here is a website that has a list of great fitness apps Click Here

Tip #5 Be Consistent– this is probably the most important tip. Many people start off strong, me being one of them, then after a few weeks we are back to our old habits. Let’s set smart and attainable goals in order to make sure we are successful.

Now that we know how to get started, let’s look good doing it, because you don’t have to look frumpy when working out. Here are some awesome options to be on your way to looking good and feeling great!

We love or blacks, whites, nudes, and tans as neutrals but have you ever stopped to consider a new addition to the family? I’m talking about rose gold. It’s not something that is just for jewelry anymore. Designers are taking this color and creating beautiful designs for all types of shoes and apparel. This color can be paired with other neutrals like whites, bold colors like turquoise, or even muted pastels. And let’s not forget the great pairing it would make with a spring floral. Take a look at some great options to add to your wardrobe.

This past weekend was my alma mater’s homecoming celebration. I had such a great time catching up with my old classmates and friends. Last week I did a post on what to wear to homecoming (click here for the post) and I went with a combination of two of the looks I created. I went with looks 1 and 2 for my homecoming ensemble.

I chose the leather leggings, motorcycle jacket, and cross body bag from this look

I chose the wedge sneakers and sweater from look #2

Here is my recreation of both looks

H&M: Hat, jacket, pants, and sweater Forever 21: Necklace, Rouge: Sneakers, Charming Charlie: chain link crossbody bag

I liked the edgy feel from the first look, but didn’t want to wear a graphic t-shirt because it was a little chilly, so I paired the look with a light weight sweater. I wanted to add a pop of color and also rep for my sorority so when I saw this hat in H&M I had to grab it. I got tons of compliments on my hat and look overall. So many people told me how much they loved the blog and I greatly appreciate each and every one of you who take the time to read. I went with the wedge sneakers from the second look because I wanted height, yet comfort.

So this is my look and I hope you all enjoy!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it is all about Pink! About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime (source). My grandmother passed away from breast cancer when my mom was 12, so I never got a chance to meet her. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, but I am glad to say that she is cancer free today! So today’s Color Coded post is all about PINK. Below you will find some great pieces in this bold and vibrant color. So let’s continue to fight and find a cure for this disease that plagues so many.
