The summer is almost over and if you haven’t started already, it is time to shop for your fall wardrobe. Before you go out and shop impulsively, it is best to create a plan so that you will buy pieces that you know you will definitely wear. So here is a list of a few of my favorite Fall 2011 trends

1. Mustard and Rust Hues

Add a punch of color with these HAUTE hues. Mustard, rust, or burgundy. If a skirt or a pair of pants are too bold for you, try a simple blouse, a pair of shoes, a handbag, or accessories. One of these hues will definitely take your look up a notch.

2. Black and White and Polka Dots

You can never go wrong with black or white, but try black and white together. Look for black blazers with white detailing or vice versa. Try a black knit with a white Peter Pan color. To make a statement go for a black and white piece in a geometric print  or try polka dots. Black and white polka dot shorts, shoes, or jackets are perfect ways to try this trend. Make sure it is subtle, avoid larger dots, it will emphasize areas you may want to hide.

3. Ladylike Dresses

Whether you are going to work or hanging out with the girls try this trend with these tea dresses. These dresses are elegant and chic. It will flatter your figure and minimize the waist. Add your own style  by rocking these dresses with a skinny belt in a bold color. They can be paired with your classic pump, a pair of oxfords, or loafers.

4. Jades, Teals, and Blue Hues

If you aren’t feeling the mustard and rust hues, try something blue. Go for cobalt, teal, royal, or jade. These jewel tones look very  luxurious and will add the pop of color to have people turning heads.

5. Bright Pants and Wide Leg Trousers

Bright colors and wide leg trousers are huge for this fall. Bright pants are not just for spring and summer anymore. Look for pants in heavier fabrics to adjust to the temperature. Wide leg trousers made t heir way back last year with the 70s style and they are here to stay.

6. Maxi, Midi, and Pleated Skirts

Maxi’s and Midi’s are here to stay, but just add a little twist with pleats. These skirts are very feminine and lady like, but of course you can rock it out by pairing these pieces with edgy accents. Be careful when it comes to pleats, as stated earlier, you do not want to emphasize areas you want to hide. Go for heavier fabrics, but if you happen to fall in love with a chiffon skirt, pair it with tights.

7. Accessories: Chokers, Cuffs, and Loafers

Loafers are bag and better than ever. Whether they are flat or with a heel, they will give you a polished look. Go for the traditional penny loafer style or try a pair with tassels. Chokers are here, but I am not sure how I feel about them. They are definitely for people with long, slender necks. Be careful with this trend. Last but not least, the cuff. This is a definite statement pieces, especially if it is encrusted with bright stones. Add a cuff to your look for some drama.

Other trends include: plunging necklines, tuxedos for women, fur, and 70s style. So use this as a guide before you go shopping. See what trend works best for you AND your body type. Trends aren’t for everyone remember that. Try not to mix too many trends together. Opt for more classic styles with an occasional trendy piece.

Happy Shopping!
