This has been a very eventful Awards Season thus far. I was secretly wishing that Lupita Nyong’o would show up and SLAY like she usually does, but this is music…maybe she’ll release an album next year…who knows lol.

Here is a recap of some of the best and wellllll other looks from a few of our favorite celebrities.

Beyonce and Jay-z

Beyonce and Jay-z

Although they did not get to walk the red carpet because they were opening the show, The Carters looked might dapper this evening. Beyonce rocked a sheer lace white dress that was sexy, but not too revealing. Jay was on his suit and (bow)tie steeze this evening.

Ciara

Ciara

Check out the glow on this hot momma! Ciara looked radiant in her gold and bronze dress.

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry

Taylor Swift and Katy Perry

Taylor Swift never disappoints (except when she goes EXTRA hard dancing in the audience -__-). Her look was simple and youthful. Katy Perry rocked  a whit sheer music note inspired gown in true Katy Perry Fashion.

Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose, and John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen

Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose, and John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen

On to the couples!. I love Chrissy’s dress. Amber Rose usually slays, but maybe a more vibrant color would have nailed this look. Both gentleman look great. Wiz knows how to rock the red carpet, as does John Legend.

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton and Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton and Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert

I feel like Miranda and Robin Thicke should be dates, Blake should have walked the red carpet alone, and while I want to love Paula Patton’s dress, I just don’t :(

Rita Ora and Rocsi Diaz

Rita Ora and Rocsi Diaz

These two played it safe. Rita usually goes all out (the MTV awards she KILLED!) Rocsi usually has a little bit more flare. While I don’t hate these looks, I don’t love them either.

Tamar Braxton, Alicia Keys, Pink

Tamar Braxton, Alicia Keys, Pink

This is probably the best that I have seen Tamar look in a long time. Usually she goes over the top with the makeup and/or outfit. She kept it classy and simple with this red gown and natural makeup. Alicia Keys never really does it for me, but this color is gorgeous. The over exposed chest area is giving me a little body builder. Women with smaller busts should not over expose the chest area. Pink has an amazing voice and gave an amazing performance, but the pattern on the dress was not needed. If it was a simple satin gown I think she would have nailed this look.

Ariana Grande and Ashanti

Ariana Grande and Ashanti

Could you believe that Ariana Grande is only 20 years old!?!?!?!? Who put her in this dress. The dress ages her and hairstyle takes off a few years so I’m just confused. I understand why she wears her hair in the same style (due to extreme damage she has limited options and just wants her hair to get healthy again), but either the hair or the dress needs to be spruced up. I didn’t even recognize Ashanti. Love the shoes, makeup and hair (yessss for the blonde) but the dress has A LOT going on and it does nothing for her shape. I really want to love her style, but I need some consistency. One day she slays and others…..

Miguel, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams , and Mack Wilds

Miguel, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams , and Mack Wilds

And for the guys…..they all have a very unique style. I’m loving Miguel’s look the most. After seeing that picture of Kendrick Lamar and Max from Living Single on Instagram I can’t look at him the same anymore lol.

Who do you think deserves best dressed at the 56th Grammy Awards?

Society puts a lot of emphasis on women’s hair. It is important to some cultures but society and the media makes women feel insecure based on their hair texture, length, and styles. I am not #TeamNatural, #TeamRelaxed, #TeamWeave, #TeamWigs or any other team. I just want people to have HEALTHY HAIR. I’ve seen plenty of naturals with dry, brittle, matted unhealthy hair and the same goes for women with relaxers; some have thin, dry, brittle, and damaged hair as well. I’ve seen women who wear weaves constantly have some of the best edges while women who have never worn a weave have edges that are similar to Naomi Campbell’s. Hair is just hair and as long as it is healthy that is all that matters.

I found this article on Self.com entitled “Healthy Hair Defined” and this can go for ALL hair types and textures.

Follow the threes Ss: Soft, Strong, and Shiny.

Soft: When your hair is soft it shows that it has some type of moisture and bounce. If you have coarse hair like me it can still be soft. Coarse does not mean brittle and dry you just have to moisturize.

Strong: Hair sheds naturally and there is nothing that you can do about it. What you can do to make your hair stronger is reduce the amount of heat you use and the amount of manipulation you do when styling your hair. You also have to be mindful of the amount of chemicals you use. So you should be careful with the bleaches and dyes and even relaxers. That’s why I wear protective hairstyles, not only for length retention, but also to get my hair stronger protecting it from the elements of nature.

Shiny: Your hair should have a natural shine. Sometimes we need the help of essential oils, sprays, and oil sheens to give it that extra boost. If your hair is dry and likes shine you may want to consider switching your shampoos and conditioners and even doing deep conditioning treatments, hot oil treatments, and protein treatments. You should also consider using a moisturizing shampoo and purchasing cleansing conditioners for co-washes instead of using shampoo. Minimizing the use of heat will also keep your hair shiny.

FYI:

Healthy Hair is shiny hair with a smooth texture and clean-cut ends or tapered tips is generally perceived to be healthy. Hair texture and shine relate to hair surface properties, whereas the integrity of hair ends relates to the hair cortex. Hair can be straight, wavy or curly, blonde, black, brown, red, gray white, and its natural variations are important to our identity -Rob D. Sinclair

I just had this conversation with my mother about my ever-changing hairstyles and curl pattern and she basically said “It’s just hair.” She is so right. I have been relaxer free for about 5 months now. I haven’t decided if I want to go fully natural, but I have been wearing protective hairstyles since March. I had a weave, a curly weave cornrow combo, and now box braids. I like to switch up my hairstyles often ever since I made that one of my new years resolutions a few years ago, so I go back and forth from my regular relaxed wrap to different hairstyles. I have been researching different hairstyles for when I take my box braids out because I’m not sure if I want to relax my hair yet. I have been having the itch to do something different, but my main concern is maintaining the health of my hair. That’s all that matters.

beyonce

Beyonce debuted her new look via Instagram and there were mixed reviews. I think some people are just miserable and find ways to spew their hatred for no apparent reason. I’ve seen Rihanna stans say Bey is trying to be like her. I don’t understand why when we all know some of Rihanna’s most infamous hairstyles have been inspired by Kelis (the grey hair and the half shaved bossy look). Maybe Beyonce wanted a change…did you ever think of that? I mean she has had long luxurious weaves and wigs for too many years. It’s nice to see a change. She has a beautiful face and the cut frames it well. I guess people can’t make a decision in life without back lash. Maybe that little fan incident was an eye opener for her and she wanted to try something new. She has the money to go and get a 46″ Brazilian lacefront right now.

If you don’t like the cut you have a right to have your own opinion, but you don’t have to bash. Everyone is not going to like everything and people should not make decisions in hopes of pleasing everyone. You are just going to add stress to your life and that is not healthy for you physically, and it sure isn’t good for your hair, because that is what’s important. If someone else’s hairstyle stops you from living, then I suggest you look deep within and see what truly matters.

So be happy and be healthy and do what you want with your hair as long as it is healthy!

Last night was the historic MET Gala and this year they celebrated PUNK, from Chaos to Couture. The star studded event is always a major highlight in the entertainment industry. This is when your favorite stars pull out all of the stops because this is one of the hottest red carpets to walk. So I will give you the run down on my favorite and not so favorite looks of the night.

I can’t say that I had an absolutely favorite look but these are my Top 4 looks in no particular order

King Bey slayed the red carpet in Givenchy. The train was what made this dress! It commands attention.

Katie Holmes version of punk was really regal and angelic. I loved her train as well and the back of the dress was amazing. (Thinking of wedding dress ideas lol)

Sarah Jessica Parker is a littly quirky but it works for her. Only she could pull off a head piece like this.

Jennifer Lopez really does anything wrong in my eyes. This Michael Kors gown fits her like a glove.

Lala Anthony, alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj Lala was my favorite in this bunch. I loved the sleek look of the Zac Posen dress. Alicia Keys and Nicki Minaj were a little underwhelming.

Lala was my favorite in this group. I love the color of the Zac Posen dress. Alicia Keys and Nicki weren’t terrible but a little underwhelming.

Kim Kardashian was bashed up and down social media yesterday. I felt bad for her. I tried to find the most flattering picture, but this was clearly a poor choice. She has not been winning in the fashion department during this pregnancy.

What were your favorite looks of the evening?

Have you ever thanked God for not answering a few of your prayers? Have you ever thanked God for His perfect timing? Do you ever stop to think that it was a blessing that God didn’t let you enter that relationship, or have enough money to take a certain trip?  I don’t think I do it enough. I was just thinking one day about some of the things that have happened in my life that I prayed for and didn’t receive when I thought the timing was right. Whether it was a new relationship, new friendship, new job, or other opportunities, I was thinking about how blessed I am now because I know that God has my best interest at heart.

What sparked these thoughts was a picture of an outfit that I wore a while ago. I wore a t-shirt from Forever 21 that says “Count Your Blessings.”

countyourblessings

Often times we get fed up and frustrated when our prayers aren’t’ answered in the time that we have allotted. When will we realize that it is never our time, but it is always God’s time? We see things happening in the lives of our family members, friends, colleagues, and associates and dare I say it, become a little jealous. I can speak from experience and had to check myself and check my heart. Sometimes when we are in “the moment” we don’t realize that God just saved us from heart ache, anxiety, unnecessary stress, financial problems, mental anguish and more. We just think about why we are so “unlucky” or why is God taking so long to do something. Psalm 46:10 says “Be still, and know that I am God.” Galatians 6:9 says “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up”

We have to thank God for his perfect timing and allowing us to “dodge bullets” because some things that we prayed for was not in our best interest. I think of Beyonce’s song “Best Thing I Never Had” and she says “Thank God you blew it. Thank God I dodged the bullet…” and this statement can be connected to many aspects of life not just romantic relationships like she was referring to. Thank God we didn’t get that job because a better one came a long, Thank God for removing negative people we thought were friends out of our lives, Thank God for showing us compassion so we are able to repair broken relationships.

We have to look at what we feel is negative as a blessing because God has our best interest at heart. I am thankful that He doesn’t listen to me sometimes because I would be in serious trouble! We have to realize that God answers every prayer whether we like the answer or not. It may be yes, no, not yet, or he may have something better in mind that we can’t even imagine. So today I urge you to know have any doubts or worries. I urge you not to be depressed or angry. I urge you not to feel like God has forgotten about your prayers, but just Thank Him in Advance for what is to come.

Twitter and Facebook were on fire all night during the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. The music industry’s most talented and celebrated artist joined together to recognize those who had an amazing year. Let’s get in to our favorite and least favorite looks of the night.

Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra

Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra

KELLY ROWLAND looked AMAZING! I don’t even have the words to describe how amazing she looks. I ordered a Jeanette Jenkins workout DVD because her body is on point. That dress was made for her. It is sexy! She looks hot!

Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys

Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys

Queen Bey went against the grain in this black and white pant suit. J. Lo took the memo and threw it out of the window.  Check out that leg! Alicia Keys also wore a black gown, nothing to exciting, but she looks good.

Solange and Katy Perry green with envy!

Solange and Katy Perry green with envy!

I don’t have to say much besides green has never looked so good! Solange looks regal in emerald and the mint green compliments Katy Perry’s skin tone perfectly.

Rihanna and Adele

Rihanna and Adele

I wasn’t wow’d by either of these two. I think Rihanna’s hair took away from the dress. I love that Adele wasn’t in black, but this print was not the most flattering. The shape is amazing on her though.

Taylor Swift and Rocsi

Taylor Swift and Rocsi

Taylor Swift wore a J. Mendel gown. She is always red carpet ready. Rocsi looked great in this white jumpsuit. it is simple but also the shape is very flattering.

Ashanti, Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose

Ashanti, Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose

Ashanti was all about the leg, but she stayed within the guidelines of the memo. Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa are just ready for their son to arrive. She is definitely glowing.

Nas, Ne-yo, Nelly

Nas, Ne-yo, Nelly

These guys went for metallic looks. Nas is sharp!

Miguel, Drake, Frank Ocean, Trey Songz

Miguel, Drake, Frank Ocean, Trey Songz

These guys didn’t disappoint either. Trey and Drake look so polished. Frank and Miguel are well, Frank and Miguel.

Who rocked the Grammy’s Red Carpet for you? My vote is with Ms. Kelly!
