This past weekend I was in the sunny state of Florida where temperatures reached 90 degrees. I was in shorts, rompers, and sandals for three days and then I had to come back home to 46 degree weather. I couldn’t believe my eyes as I watched the news as my plane landed at JFK. It was 46 degrees in New York and I only had a on a denim jacket. Well this weather reminded me of one of the few things that I like about fall, all of my wonderful boots and booties.

One of my favorite pairs would have to be these leopard print wedge booties that I scored last year for $30 on sale. As most of you know I love leopard print and I was on cloud 9 when I spotted these in the window of a boutique in Brooklyn. I just had to take a trip down memory lane. These babies will be making an appearance on my feet pretty soon 🙂

On Saturday I started celebrating my birthday early! October 2nd is the big day, but I couldn’t wait to celebrate. I started the celebration with brunch with a few of my friends at one of my favorite brunch spots. Sunday morning  my good friend from high school and her bf took me to breakfast, and Sunday night I had dinner with my siblings and 2 friends before we all headed over to the Barclays Center for Jay-Z’s concert. Guess what, the celebration doesn’t stop there! I’ll have updates throughout the week with my birthday festivities.

If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen my “All Black Everything” outfit. I was going for a trendy look so I wore leather shorts, lace top with black tank underneath, patterned tights, and wedge sneakers. Everything was super trendy, but I guess I gave off Sex Kitten instead lol. Those were not my intentions. I got SOOOO many stares. I didn’t think the outfit was as scandalous as people made it seem lol. It was definitely weird, maybe it was the red lip, who knows, but I still had a great time none the less. Outfit details in the caption.

For brunch, I was reluctant to concede to the fall temperatures so I wore a shirt dress without tights and my burgundy wingtip heels. I should have put on tights, it was definitely a little chilly, but next time I wear this dress it will be with tights.

As you get older you begin to mature and look at life from a different perspective. This may not be the case for everyone, but this definitely applies to my life. I have a confession to make…I used to be a binge shopper. I used to be a shopaholic. I know this is the case for many women, and some people do not even consider this a problem but it was for me.

While in college and a few years after I graduated I would spend my hard earned money on clothes and accessories. I wasn’t concerned with saving or paying any major bills because I “lived for the moment.” I would always end up at the mall and go from store to store racking up on all of the latest trends. Whenever I was going to a party or to dinner I would HAVE to buy a new outfit. Repeating looks was not my M.O. So I shopped, and I shopped, and I shopped. I would waste so much money on trends or things that I would wear only once. As I sit here and write this post, I think about all the money I could have saved and trips I could have taken if I was more responsible.

I guess this comes with growing up; you recognize your mistakes and you make better decisions. So out with the old and in with the new! I have learned to become a savvier shopper. I plan my purchases carefully. I’ve found that my wardrobe is more polished now that I plan my purchased. Before, my closet used to be filled with trends. I would have pieces that I wore once and never wanted to wear again. I would shop on impulse and end up wasting money because I would never wear some of the pieces. Now that I have a more defined style, I find buying pieces a lot easier. Also I can help my clients define their personal style and avoid making the same mistakes that I did.

Breaking my binge shopping habit was one of the best things that I could have done. My OLD ways of shopping were not healthy or productive. Now with my NEW found perspective my fashionable life is a lot less complicated.

What OLD habits have you broke? How were you made NEW?

Happy Sunday everyone! I wanted to share a quick What I Wore post with you all. I’ve had this New York and Company dress for a little while and I have been dying to wear it. Every time I think about putting the dress on something always deters me from being great. Well today I was able to finally wear this dress that I adore. When I saw it on the hanger I was like “ok this is interesting” but the most interesting (my way of saying weird lol )pieces on the hanger always end up looking fabulous on the body. So here are the details

And yes I have changed my hair again! This has been my “thing” for 2012. I recently took out my brazilian body wave tracks and went for a totally  new look. I didn’t want a full head of senegalese twist again because I didn’t want to spend hours in the salon so I went for a different look. I have cornrows going in to twists. The right side is actually twisted so I have somewhat of a half and half look. I love this style and the fact that I don’t have to do my hair in the morning. I have been on a roll with this protective styling to add some length to my hair. I think I’ll continue throughout 2012 switching up the style every 6 weeks or so depending on the condition of my hair. So there you have it! What I Wore and my new hair. Until next time!

For many of us, casual Fridays and casual summers come to an end after Labor Day. We are forced (to a certain extent) to wear more conservative/traditional things to work. Nowadays people have created this fine line with what is appropriate to wear to a place of employment. If there are no rules, by all means go and have fun, but for most people there is a dress code or at least a decency policy that many have thrown out of the window. For this look I wore an XOXO skirt from Macy’s, tank from H&M, and a jacket from Sears  (all items purchased eons ago, maybe not eons, but none of these items are in stores 🙁 )

The look is semi business casual, but the skirt is a little too tight in the hips and derrière, hence all of the bunching. I would never wear this to my place of employment. The tank, jacket, and shoes yes! The skirt, maybe if about 5 lbs magically disappeared, which would be my hips and butt, and that is not happening. The fit of the skirt would be better if it was a tad bit larger. Ladies, this is a perfect example of why fit is important!  You don’t want to constantly have to pull and tug at your clothing. So RIP to this skirt. You were loved by many!

Something must have been really funny as I was trying to run out of the middle of the street lol
