RIP Alexander McQueen

posted by:

As reported by the Huffington Post

McQueen was born in the East End of London on March 17, 1969. His father was a taxi driver and as a child he made dresses for his three sisters. As a teenager he apprenticed on Savile Row–where he made suits for Prince Charles and Mikhail Gorbachev –before attending Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. It was his graduation collection that caught the eye of influential stylist Isabella Blow. The two became fast and dear friends until Blow committed suicide on May 7, 2007. McQueen dedicated his spring 2008 collection to her.

McQueen was named England’s designer of the year four times between 1996 and 2003.

This is crazy! You think a person who has practically the world is happy and satisfied, but in all reality they are battling so many demons inside. Please cherish life. Even when things seem unbearable and that you can’t go on seek to higher power for strength. God is your strength.

My condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who knew him personally and were influenced by his work. This is definitely a great loss to the world of fashion, but lets celebrate the great things he has done.

Sweet Tooth: Apple iPad

posted by:

I think Apple is almost at the “untouchable” status. They released the info about the iPad (on twitter everyone was calling it the iTampon lol) and it is truly AMAZING!!! This baby can be yours for the low low price of $499 (smh) Check the video to the see the Apple iPad in action

After months of wild speculation, Steven P. Jobs has finally givenApple fans exactly what they have been asking for — a new iPhone-like tablet computer called the iPad for $499. “We want to kick off 2010 by introducing a magical and revolutionary product today,” said Mr. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive.

Mr. Jobs appeared energized but gaunt as he unveiled the iPad at a press event in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Its features and specifications, which have been grist for the Internet rumor mill for months, are finally sharply in focus: It will feature a 9.7-inch screen and a full virtual keyboard. It is 1.2 inches thick and weighs 1.5 pounds. In addition, the iPad screen is multi-touch, meaning content on it can be manipulated with swipes and taps of the fingers.

The iPad is outfitted with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Internet connectivity, and is powered by a 1-gigahertz Apple A4 chip and has 16 to 64 gigabytes of flash storage. Mr. Jobs described the iPad as “so much more intimate than a laptop and so much more capable of a smartphone with this gorgeous, large display.”

During the event, Mr. Jobs demonstrated the iPad as a platform for watching video, streaming music, reading e-books, browsing photographs and playing games. The company also said third-party applications would be a big draw on the iPad.

The iPad will run “virtually every one” of the current catalog applications for the iPhone, numbering around 100,000 “virtually unmodified,” Scott Forstall, a senior vice president, said.

Motivation Monday: Power of Words

posted by:

“Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs.” Pearl Strachan

The powers words contain is unbelievable. We have the ability to create things just by speaking them into existence. Your words also reveals what is in your heart. If a person is very negative and only speaks of negative things, then they obviously are not happy and it is a reflection of what is on the inside. Words give you courage and confidence. A simple “good morning, how are you?” can turn a person’s day around.

We have to be mindful of the words that we speak. One reason is because we do not want our words to be the reason to cause a person heartache, pain, doubt, or any type of insecurities. Instead of only speaking about what people do wrong, tell them what they are doing right also and then help them find a way to change. Only acknowledging a persons faults and flaws is not healthy.

Words bring on new insights and enlighten people in ways never imagined. Words are the reason we have all of these great creations. Somethings just have to be spoken. I really do believe that we speak things into existence. If you constantly sayy I am not or I can’t, chances are you will not and you can’t because of the words you spoke.

In order to change how we speak, we have to change what is in our hearts. Yesterday, Pastor Bernard said “The heart is the central motivation factor of human life. Every desire, choice, and decision comes from your heart.” Luke 6:45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Words have the ability to make or break anyone and anything. Think about what is in your heart. Think about the words you speak this week and beyond. What do your words reflect about your character?

There is a lot that needs to be done, a lot that needs to be changed and I know that it starts with my very words. Examine yourselves, by examining your heart, this is definitely a time for self-reflection.

Have a blessed week!

Motivation Monday: Discernment

posted by:

“A rich man may be wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who has discernment sees through him” Proverbs 28:11

Discernment-noun- the act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good judgment.

Discernment is key if you want to be successful at anything. We need to be able to see through a person’s motive and try to understand their “agenda,” and almost everyone has an agenda. With discernment we must also examine our thought life. We need to examine what we think and how we think. I’ve learned in church that “you thought life is what determines your success or failure.” So we need to pray for spiritual discernment. Spiritual discernment will allow us to see things our natural eyes would not allow.

So let us start by examining our thoughts, the ones created by us and also other people. Examine what people say to you and try to figure out the “agenda.” If we begin to develop discernment, many of the “sticky” situations that we find ourselves in will decrease. We would not be so easily disappointed or a failure. “The way you think is critical. It is important to think critically. Thinking is a process and most of it goes on at a subconscious level” Pastor Bernard. He also says that every thought has power in your life, so let us begin to figure out the agenda and if it is not aligned with any of our goals, values, or purposes, we need to erase the thought from our mind. Do not give power to something that will not produce a positive outcome.

We need to change the way we think, and once that process begins, our actions and reactions will change also. Do not let negative people or thoughts ruin your chances of achieving your goals. Take a closer look at what you think about and the things that influence those thoughts. If you need to remove yourself from an environment or even a group of people, do so if it brings you peace. So let us begin (or continue) developing discernment and see things froma  spiritual perspective. Examine your thoughts and the thoughts from outside influences and figure out the agenda. Pay attention to the agenda and handle the situation accordingly. Make the right decision, even if it hurts (and trust me it does!!!) and  be on your road to success. I know that I am on the way…

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., was founded on January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by five beautiful African-American Women: Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, Fannie Pettie Watts, and Pearl Anna Neal. These women dared to depart from the traditional coalitions for African-American Women and sought to establish a new organization based the ideology of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood. These women were inspired by two brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Charles Taylor, and Langston Taylor. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is a Sorority of firsts; Zeta Phi Beta was the first Greek-letter organization to charter a chapter in Africa, as well as Germany, Bahamas, Virgin Islands, as well as South Korea. They were also the first to form adult and youth auxiliary groups and is the FIRST and ONLY sorority to be constitutionally bound to a brother fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.  Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. currently consists of more than 150,000+ (college educated, professional women) in more than 800 chapters worldwide.

Z-Phi my SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SWEEEEEEEEEET sorors! Let us continue this legacy and uphold the ideals of our 5 pearls! 90 years of excellence and counting.

Devastation in Haiti

posted by:

The earthquake in Haiti has caused an insurmountable amount of damage. Haiti is already one of the poorest places in the world and to have this type of catastrophe is extremely devastating. My prayers go out to those of you who have lost loved ones or are unable to reach your family members. Yes this is a very traumatic experience, but maybe with all of the relief effort, Haiti can rebuild and become better than what it was. For information on how you can help contribute to the relief efforts please visit www.redcrossblood.org

“We are not accepting volunteers to travel to Haiti. If you would like to volunteer for the American Red Cross, please contact your local chapter. For inquiries about relatives living and who have citizenship in Haiti, please be patient and call repeatedly until the lines clear or contact other family members who live nearby. Telephone, Internet and other communication lines are often disrupted in times of disaster. People trying to locate U.S. citizens living or traveling in Haiti should contact the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747 or 202-647-5225.”

You can help the victims of countless crises around the world each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need. Donations to the International Response Fund can be sent to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013 or made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish) or online at www.redcross.org.

Wyclef Jean has also began relief efforts. yesterday he took to Twitter asking everyone to text “YELE” to 501501 and $5 will be charged to your phone bill.

This is our chance to make a change and help those in need.

Ok so this is the last day of 2009…and I am excited for 2010!!!! So a few days ago I compeleted my vision board for 2010 and I wrote out what I will and will not do or will be and will not be in 2010 in regards to my character. I’ve learned that if things are written down on paper I have a greater chance of following them. I can post them places where I would see it everyday to keep me focused on my goals for my character. I am not calling them resolutions because I think it is such a negative connotation with that word. By the end of January or February some people are less motivated and they do not accomplish half of what they said they wanted to. So here is my list along with some pics of me and family and friends from 2009. In the comments section let me know what your goals for the new year are!

  17. Do something that I do not want to do to please other people
  18. Be unhealthy or out of shape
  19. Live an imbalanced life
  20. Be intolerant but I will not tolerate crap!

In 2010 I will…

  1. Have more faith and continue to put all my trust in God
