This may not be the most flattering picture of Jada Pinkett Smith, but this outfit is perfect for spring and summer

The outfit is simple, white tank, pink denim, and polka dot shoes. This look is casual yet polished. It could be worn pretty much anywhere during the day.

Style Files: Casual and Chic

Can you imagine the perfect night with your closest friends? You bond over drinks, work, great fashion, and of course men! Well that was not the case in the new movie “The Other Woman” starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton.

These three ladies form the strangest bond because they all have one thing in common, Mark King played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. That’s right! You have the wife, Kate King (Leslie Mann), the girlfriend, Carly Whitten (Cameron Diaz), and the mistress, Amber (Kate Upton) all teaming up to give Mark what he deserves. Talk about unlikely friendships! The camaraderie between these three is outrageous! Definitely one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a very long time.

The film’s head costume designer was none other than Patricia Fields. Yes the Patricia Fields! So can you say Sex in the City? After the screening there was a Q&A session with Pat, as she is affectionately known. She was asked a variety of questions even what are her staple pieces or favorite pieces in her wardrobe in which she responded, “I love everything.”

When it came to the fashion for the movie Pat said it starts with reading the script. She said you have to know the story. Then she gets to know the characters. Her job is to make the characters come to life through fashion. The fashion isn’t the focus, it’s the character, so she chooses items to fit their personality and lifestyle portrayed in the movie.

Without giving away too much here’s a short breakdown of the fashion in the movie:

Cameron Diaz- The powerful attorney girlfriend- What would you expect a powerful attorney who works in midtown to wear? Contemporary and modern. I won’t even begin to describe her apartment (swoons). She dresses like she is in control black power suits, sexy yet mildly conservative dresses in a bold red, and stilettos galore!
Leslie Mann- The suburban wife-She had to be my absolute favorite character. Pat describes her as a Stepford wife. She wears the cardigans around her neck, the bright floral prints, sun hats and tunics and kitten heel sling backs.
Kate Upton- The young mistress– She’s like your typical college sorority girl. Most of her wardrobe consists of short shorts and lots of cleavage.
Nicki Minaj-Lydia the assistant– She pretty much played herself lol. Her character was very believable and seemed like a true side of Nicki. She also dressed her role as well with different wigs, body con dresses and tight skirts in gorgeous prints and patterns.

One guest asked Pat has there been one piece that she just had to get into a movie or who her favorite designers and brands are to pull from. She simply said it’s not about the clothes or fashion. It’s about making the characters believable. Kudos to Patricia Fields and her team! They did an amazing job with the fashion in this film.

Prior to the screening all of the guest mingled of champagne, popcorn and the cutest candy bar to get ready for the film:

Here is a recap of some of our favorite looks from the Oscars. This is the biggest red carpet event during award season and so we expect nothing but the best!

Pictures150

Viola Davis, Kerry Washington, and Jada Pinkett Smith were among our favorites during the red carpet. I love the 1920s style waves that Viola is rocking and the color of her dress. Kerry Washington is not letting the bun in the oven stop her fashion game. She is glowing in this gown! Jada Pinkett Smith surprised me with this look. It is sleek and sexy. The color has me anticipating spring more and more.

oscars10I don’t think Charlize Theron ever misses a fashion beat. She brings it every time!

Pictures152I was on the fence about Julia Roberts’ look, but I actually like the texture and lace. I love Karen O’s deep neckline with the jewel encrusted pendant. The dress flatters her figure well and you can never go wrong with black.

Pictures151I think Sandra Bullock is so underrated. She is always classy. Kate Hudson looks amazing as well and both of these ladies are setting trends for the spring with side swept curls. I thought I liked Angelina Jolie’s dress, but now that I’m looking at it again, I’m not that crazy about it…oh well.

Last but not least, I have to revisit Lupita Nyong’o’s look 🙂

US-OSCARS-ARRIVALSSimply regal!

Who rocked your favorite look for the Oscars?

Lupita Nyong’o definitely deserves her own post. Not only because she looked stunning in her “Cinderella-esque” Prada gown in “Nairobi Blue.” She said,

“It’s a blue that reminds me of Nairobi, and so I wanted to have a little bit of home.

This show stopping red carpet look was only the beginning. Lupita also won an Oscar for best supporting actress in “12 Years a Slave.” This has been a true fairytale for her and she deserves it all. It is great to see a woman of color so highly regarded for her great works. Often times African and  African-American are perceived in a negative light because of stereotypes perpetuated in society, she defies them all. She is well-spoken, well-dressed, talented, refined and simply amazing.

The Red Carpet at the 45th Annual was in overdrive this weekend as some of our favorite actors, singers, activists, and more pulled all of the stops with their stunning looks. Take a look at some of our favorite looks from the evening.

Gabrielle Union, Tika Sumpter, Tatyana Ali

Naomie Harris, Tika Sumpter, Tatyana Ali

These three ladies were my personal favorites for the evening. I love the gold and champagne color combinations that these ladies have chosen. The dresses are sexy, yet feminine.

Ledisi, Regina Hall, Nia Long

I love the colors of Ledisi and Nia Long’s dresses. The blue is very vibrant, and the green is bold. Regina Hall’s gown is very simple and it goes to show that a little goes a long way.

Oprah, Kerry Washington, Lupita Nyongo

Now these ladies here, I’m on the fence about their looks. I like the color of Oprah’s gown, as well as Lupita Nyongo, but I’m not a fan of Oprah’s dress at all. Lupita’s dress is the best out of these three, but maybe the hairstyle is to Avant Garde for me….I’m still on the fence with her. As much as I love Kerry Washington, I have not been a huge fan of her maternity wear.
