Tyra

Today is National Real Hair Day!!! Tyra Banks is kicking off the new season of her talk show by rocking her natural hair! Now that is big! Especially in today’s society where weaves and lacefronts have TAKEN OVER!!! I counted about 15 lacefronts while shopping at BJs last Friday…and they were horrible! One girl’s lacefront started at her eyebrows!! I realized I was staring too long when she gave me a stink look lol…but anyway….tune in today for the premiere of the Tyra Show on the CW!

Nail Candy

One of the latest trends that ruled the runway for Fall/Winter 2009 is the Ombre Effect! Ombre is a French word that means shading and is used to describe a technique used by many fashion designers where they fade or bleed colors into one another. Now this technique is somewhat difficult. You would not attempt to do the fading like we did back in the day with the half and half nails. You have to have the right polish to accomplish this look as well. I think colors that are vibrant and shiny would work better, it would be less of a dingy look if you tried with say a dull or matte color.

Calgel Usa have online training sessions and kits where they teach you the technique (www.calgelusa.com) . You can also go on youtube and type in Ombre Effect for nails and there are many videos that will pop up. I hope my nail technician can accomplish this because I simply love it!

When I first laid eyes on Matte polish I fell in love immediately!!!! It is something so sleek, sexy, and sophisticated about matte nails. In the Summer and Spring we tend to go for shiny, glossy, bright colors, but  now that we are moving into Fall its time to switch up the nail candy.

Brands like O.P.I. (pictured above) have a pretty good selection of colors. My favorites are the black and the green. Alos pictured above is Zoya. These brands have a limited line/selection of matte colors.

Well Essie has created a new product “Matte About You” This is a matte finisher used like a top coat! You can apply the finisher to any nail polish and it will have a smooth matte finish! This great product is only $10. You can’t beat that price. Think about it this way,  you can use all of the colors that you purchased for the summer in the Fall. The matte finish will tone down the glossiness and brightness to give it a sleek look, which is so appropriate for the fall.

This is an example of the product. Look at all of the possibilities with the matte finish! This is a great buy! you can purchase this product at www.essieshop.com

nars-1“For this collection, I wanted to create something fragile and strong, and seductive but not aggressive,” said François Nars, Founder and Creative Director of Nars Cosmetics.

So the goal of many make up brands is to give women and bold and strong attitude while maintaining their femininity. So choose which areas of your face you want to accent with the bold colors, eyes, lips, or cheeks, not all three at the same time, then you’ll look like you belong in a Marilyn Manson video..smh. Choose your colors wisely depending on t he time of day. Please do not put your after work face on at 8:00am. The look in the image of above is perfect because the lips are bold, the cheeks are strong, and the eyes are somewhat soft and feminine. Use this as your guide.

I wouldn’t really call this a trend because these colors have been around for a while, but the earth tones were big on the runways for Fall/Winter 2009. To achieve the pefect look for your eyes choose colors that are rich with gold tones. The pic below also features another trend for the fall the cat eye.

The smokey eye will be around for a very long time if not forever. This is an alternative to the traditional black and grey look. Combine grey with midnight blue, egg plant, or forrest green to add more drama and dimension to the eyes.

Brands like MAC, Urban Decay, and NARS have great shades to match every tone. You can even use drug store brands like L’Oreal and CoverGirl to achieve this look at half the price. Stay tuned for the product updates!
