So I received a Klout Perk about a month ago from Freeman Beauty. The perk included three masks :

  1. Facial Peel Off Mask: Cucumber Peel
  2. Facial Polishing Mask: Charcoal and Black Sugar
  3. Facial Clay Mask: Avocado and Oatmeal

I was super excited to try these. I rarely use masks, but wanted to incorporate different types into my routine either weekly or bi-weekly, but definitely more than once every few  months like I have in the past.

So I will give a complete review of all three masks in this post

1. Facial Peel Off Mask: Cucumber Peel Product Description

freeman1

A super-cooling, skin-quenching mask that gently peels away impurities that can cause skin to be rough and dull. Contains Cucumber Extract and Aloe to soothe while moisturizing, ensuring skin feels soft and silky-smooth after every use. Perfect for normal to combination skin.

Directions: Apply evenly to face, avoiding eye area. Leave on 5-10 minutes or until dry. Gently peel off mask. Rinse with warm water.

My Thoughts

This mask was so much fun to use. It reminded me of when I was younger and used to put glue on my hands and peel off the glue. Anyway….After I used this mask my skin was looked brighter and felt very smooth. The cold weather has taken a toll on my skin, so after I used this I was pleased with the results. My skin was no longer dry and dull. The cool gel was a nice feeling and it was very soothing. On a scale of I would give this mask 3.5-4. It was a little painful pulling the mask off around my nose and the smell was quite strong, but those were my only complaints. I would purchase this product in the future.

2. Facial Polishing Mask: Charcoal and Black Sugar Description

freeman2

Pollution…debris…it’s a wonder skin can breathe! This unique mask and scrub works double time to detox skin. First, naturally purifying Activated Charcoal helps absorb oil and impurities without over-drying. The, Black Sugar helps exfoliate away dulling skin cells for softness and clarity. Perfect for all skin types.

Directions: Apply mask to face and neck, avoiding contact with eyes. Leave on for 5 to 7 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Use 2 times a week or as often as needed

My Thoughts

This had to be my favorite mask out of all three. I was very pleased with my results. First I was excited to try a charcoal mask. I’m a sucker for a good exfoliator and this was the perfect product. Not only did it my skin feel soft after use, my skin was noticeably brighter. It did not dry like a normal mask, so I would call this more of a scrub. I would use this every few days (3-4) if I were to include this in my routine. On a scale of I would give this product a 5. It was a great exfoliator, has a great smell, and it did not leave my skin feeling dry. The results were great and I will be purchasing this.

3. Facial Clay Mask: Avocado and Oatmeal Description

freeman3

Nourish and purify with one amazing mask! Rich clays dive deep to purge dirt and oils from pores. Nutrient-rich Vitamin E, Avocado and Oatmeal moisturize for lasting skin softness. Skin looks and feels squeaky clean and is soft to the touch. Perfect for normal to combination skin.

Directions: Apply mask to face and neck, avoiding contact with eyes. Let dry and rinse with warm water. Use two times a week or as often as needed.

My Thoughts

This was my least favorite out of all of the masks. I was excited to try this one because I love avocado lol. I love to eat avocados and use avocados in masks for my hair. So I thought it should me good for my face, but I was wrong. Once the mask started to dry it became extremely tight and I started to feel a tingle and a slight warm sensation, which was not pleasant. I left the mask on for about 5 minutes and then rinsed. I had to immediately put on moisturizer because my face felt dry. I did not have this feeling with the other mask. On a scale of 5 I would give this product a 2. This is the only one that I would not purchase.

Drug Stores and “Super Stores”

Hey my loves!

With the weather drastically changing to resemble late fall we need to not only adjust our skincare routine, but also our hair routine. The elements of the weather are never on our side. The sun dries our hair out just as much as the cool temperatures. Our clothes are not hair friendly either. Wool, tweed, and other heavy fabrics from sweaters, jackets, scarves, and hats can cause breakage and shedding as well. So this is why most people do protective hairstyles for the winter. One, we can give our hair a break from constant manipulation, and we can also save time in the morning and evening with our hair prep routines.

Here are some protective styles that I am considering to make sure my hair continues to grow and stay healthy during the chilly weather.

1. Senegalese Twists- I’m a huge fan of the style, but I HATE the installation process. The hair braiders that I go to always say, “You have too much hair.” I take it as a compliment though. Since my hair is quite long I have to get them longer than I actually want. It usually takes 3 people over the course of 6hrs to complete.

2. Marley Twists- These are similar to Senegalese twists, but the hair is more coarse and the twists are bigger.

3. Weave it up!- I want a bang, but I don’t want to cut my hair. So I’m thinking of a weave with bang combo. Maybe a bob cut with a side part and bangs. You have to maintain your hair underneath the same way. So that means washing and deep conditioning.

4. Wigs- I’ve worn wigs before, I would wear a wig again IF it doesn’t look “wiggy.” You can keep your hair in cornrows under a stocking cap. You will still be able to moisturize and seal better with a wig than a weave because you can remove it.

5. Cornrows- This style can last anywhere between 4-6 weeks (sometimes longer) depending on how you maintain it.

How do you protect your hair during the fall and winter?

*Sigh* Later on this week the weather won’t get out of the 50s. That means it is really time to prep for the chilly weather that we will have for the next five months (March is never warm enough for me). Here are a few tips that I will follow to make sure that my skin is soft and supple during the chilly months.

skincare2

  1. Purchase heavy lotions like Eucerin or cremes like NIVEA Creme. Creams and heavy lotion provide more moisture and better protection to prevent your skin from feeling and looking dry
  2. Use a hydrating soap or bodywash. When it says hydrating it’s adding more moisture. I like to apply a body oil right after while my skin is still damp to seal in my moisture then apply my creme/heavy lotion.
  3. Take care of your hands and nails. My mother always remind me that I have my father’s hands, meaning old and dried up, and she is right. I have to always moisturize my hands, and not only after my hands have been in water. Also, don’t forget about your nails. Not only will your hands get dry, but so will your nail bed and cuticles. So invest in a good cuticle oil.
  4. Don’t forget the sunscreen! The sun doesn’t stop shining in the fall and winter.
  5. Use a lip scrub and moisturizing lip balm frequently. I like the Mary Kay Satin Lips mask as my scrub. I have been using all NIVEA lip care products and I really love the lip butters because they are super moisturizing and leave my lips feeling so soft.
  6. Assess your facial cleansers and moisturizers. I change my moisturizers pretty frequently (every 3-4 months usually) because my face seems to get tired if I use the same products over and over. Now that it is getting cooler, I need a heavier moisturizer that won’t clog my pores, but won’t have my skin looking or feeling dry either. Also invest in hydrating masks as well to keep your skin looking and feeling fresh and vibrant.

What’s your routine when the weather changes?

Ok so last week I told you all about me coloring and few hair pieces to switch up my look for fall. I dyed black peruvian human hair with Clairol Professional Classic Collection dye in 6N which is dark neutral blonde. Many people felt swindled because they thought I was going totally blonde. Honestly I had no idea that the dark neutral blonde on dark brown hair would make the hair sandy brown. Although I knew I wasn’t bleaching my hair I didn’t know what to expect. I also told you that I would be making my own hair extensions! If you don’t remember, click here. Well why the dyeing process was so easy and effortless the clip-ins were not! The gurus on YouTube make it seem like it was totally simple, but apparently I did not have the proper hair weaving needle :(, but because I’m resourceful and savvy, I made it work!

So check out how I styled my new hair and new look!

Perfect sporty chic outfit!

Perfect sporty chic outfit!

I went sporty chic with my Phillip Lim for Target BOOM Sweatshirt and my leather leggings from H&M. I carried new favorite bag from the Phillip Lim for Target collection and brought the look together with a pair of shoes that I’ve had for the last three or four years from Payless, yes don’t sleep on Payless and their shoes last.

I’m amazed at how great the color looks first because I did it myself, and second because it matches exactly to  my natural hair color. As I’ve stated in previous hair posts, my hair currently has three textures, most of my hair is relaxed, a portion of my hair is texlaxed, and then there is my new growth. My hair also has three different colors and for the Clairol Professional Classic Collection to be so versatile that it matched all three of my hair shades I’m simply blown away.

This picture captures the color so beautifully!

Remember the collection offers 16 different shades and because it is easy to use I’m sure you won’t have a problem finding the right color to fit your style needs. The process of coloring took about 10 minutes for the mixture and application and 45-minutes to process without heat. I love my new look and it’s just in time for my birthday too! How exciting is that!
