Last Friday (September 11, 2009) I was fortunate enough to have one of my friends give me a ticket to be in the Garden (Thanks D!) I must say that this concert was probably the best concert that I’ve gone too by far! I am not just saying that because I am the ultimate Jay-Z fan, I am saying that because of the atmosphere in the Garden. It was amazing! Everyone on one accord celebrating life.

MSG6

Jay-Z’s performance was outstanding! He performed my favorite tracks from BP3 (Empire State of Mind, Already Home with Kid Cutie I mean Cudi, Venus vs Mars (The acapella ending was incredible!, On To The Next One with Swizz, and Young Forever)

MSG

When they performed Run This Town I went nuts. I am not a huge fan of Rihanna as an artist but she did a decent job and she looked great (as always)

MSG3

When Queen Bey came out the couple infront of me turned around and just stared at me lol. I didn’t care. I was enjoying myself. They just stood there and didn’t move….waste of tickets.

I don’t think there will be another rapper that can sell out the Garden and get the same response as Jay. He is truly in a league of his own. People hate on him constantly, but no one can do what he is doing at the moment. It takes more energy to foucs on the negativity so just get over it and appreciate what he is doing for HipHop culture.

ION

I think they really like each other. You should’ve seen Amber Rose while Kanye was performing at MSG on Friday (she was on the side of the stage)

I’m really waiting for Rihanna to wear a garbage bag and make it chic…her style is ridiculous!

ION11

Ok so the highlight of the night was Kanye West. He was so disrespectful…I felt so bad for Taylor Swift, but he apologized on his blog. I thought it was staged at first, but that’s Ye…smh. Then Lil Mama had the audacity to hit the stage with Jay and Alicia Keys. Lil Mama’s album didn’t go plastic and she’s only famous for poppin lip gloss and she felt she had the right to be on stage with legends! Musical geniuses! Grammy Winners! Fab is like the twitter King…he made #lilmamais a trending topic real fast. Those tweets were hilarious!

Here are some pics from the Red Carpet if you missed them!

I just remember sitting in Environmental Science class (3rd Period) and hearing sirens for majority of the class time. My teacher said, “what’s going on out there? You would think somebody just blew up a building” 5 Minutes later the security guard runs in and tells us that a plane crashed into the World Trade Center. We all ran down the hall to see (my high school was at the foot of the Manhattan Bridge and so we had a perfect view) Some of the teachers even took their classes to watch from the roof. It was crazy watching the buildings collapse. It didn’t really hit me until calculus and one of my classmates was crying because his dad worked in one building and his aunt in the other. After that I lost it! (They were both safe by the way)

Since my school was at the foot of the bridge we watched as people walked across covered in soot and some were bleeding. They came into our school for water. I pulled myself together and just tried to help in any way that I could. My best friend Erica and I went to the main office answered phones, when parents came to get their kids we located their children. I think we left school around 5:30 that evening and had to walk home because the trains were not in service.  What a way to start my senior year of high school!

After that moment everything changed! Not only as far as the security of the nation and the lives of millions of people, but simple things that I never appreciated before like my commute.   Streets that I used to walk down to get to school were blocked off and so that made my commute much longer. Military officers were stationed outside of the school to “man and protect” the Manhattan Bridge and everyone just became paranoid. It was more real for me walking past these men armed with their weapons every day.

This is definitely the abridged version of that day, but it is something that I will never forget. My prayers go out to everyone affected by the events that took place on September 11, 2001
