It is almost that time of year again. The Makeup Show is probably the best trade show for cosmetics. I have gone for the past two years and I always leave with great deals and tips on makeup application and skincare check my recap posts here and here.
The Makeup Show will be held on May 5th and 6th again at the Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 W. 18th st. The event is so massive that you may need two days to cover it all. Not only do you get to interact with brands and purchase items at a discounted price you also get to sit for the education courses which I find to be the most valuable. The top professionals in the beauty industry share their tips and tricks on everything from creating a flawless canvas to special fx makeup.
This year The Makeup Show will feature over 75 brands, 6 keynote speakers, 20 seminars, and 14 hands on workshops. This is the ultimate place for aspiring makeup artists as well as the pros. It is always great to learn what is new in your industry.
Some of the brands in attendance: Makeup Forever Pro, Temptu Pro, Crown Brush, NARS, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Stila, Youngblood Cosmetics, Naked Cosmetics, AJ Crimson and more. One company that I am excited to see return is Ofra Cosmetics. I purchased one of their palettes last year and I absolutely love it! Here is the full list of exhibitors.
Some of the educators include Orlando Santiago, Danessa Myricks, Jon Hennessey, and Esterique Aidan.

I haven’t done one of these in God knows how long. I am going to commit to at least 2 Mani Monday’s per month. That’s a start. For this week I decided to break out the hot colors for spring. I know Spring doesn’t officially arrive until Wednesday hey, I’m a little impatient.
I chose to do a glitter tip mani with “Hot Magenta” 120 as the primary color with “Rockstar Pink” 140 as the glitter tip from Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear Line. I topped it off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dry top coat.
Here’s the mani

Hey my loves!
I have a secret to tell you, I have a love hate relationship with my nails. When I say I have a love hate relationship I mean that I love how my nails look when they are freshly polished, but I hate polishing them. I have the shakiest hands that you could ever imagine (thank God for nail strips). I have tons of nail polish and thanks to Sally Hansen my collection just grew even larger. Every Sunday I said I would paint my nails for the week. That lasted for about a month and my motivation quickly started to fade.
So I was excited to see the Sally Hansen I <3 Nail Art Contest. Now in no way shape or form am I some fancy nail artist. I can barely draw a straight line or even polka dots (smh), but I thought it would be fun to partake in the challenge.
So for the month of March the theme is “Inspired by the Runway.” I went on a massive Google search and found something that was simple enough for me to do and add my own little twist!
I chose the Modern Racing Stripes spotted on the hands of the lovely models for Monika Chiang during New York Fashion Week Spring 2013.
Check out my creation below!
What I Used
1. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Cinna-Snap 340
2. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Silver Sweep 230 down the “center” of my nail on my middle finger
3. Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips in Check Please! 235
4. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat
I didn’t want to get too fancy and put a silver strip on each nail so I opted for the Check, Please! nail strips as a symbol for the end of the race when someone waves the checkered flag. For an amateur, I think I did pretty well!

Hey dolls!
With 2013 right around the corner we had to do our yearly review of the top trends. This year was amazing for the fashion and beauty industries. The popular trends took the world, yes the world, by storm. You had everything from oxblood and tangerine, to “poetic justice” braids and wedge sneakers, celebs and fashionistas all over made 2012 a year to remember. Take a look at the hottest trends of 2012.
Beauty- Tangerine Lips, Vampy Lips, Claw nails and intricate nail art
For the spring/summer we saw tangerine lips all of the street and for the fall/winter vampy lips were in control. The nail art craze went to an entirely new level, especially with the intricate designs and 3d application. We can’t forget about the claw/stiletto shape either.
Hair- Poetic Justice Braids, Ombre Hair, High Bun (top knot)- none of these trends are new or groundbreaking, but they made a huge comeback in 2012. The most popular would have to be the top knot that Lala is rocking. Everyone from my 5 year old niece to Beyonce took part in this trend. Solange brought back the “poetic justice braids” again this year and even got her sister Beyonce to partake in the trend. Lastly, ombre hair was huge. Everyone from Ciara to Keke Palmer took rocked this look.
Fashion- Peplum, Hi-Lo (skirts, dresses, tops), Wedge sneakers were huge this year. I mean Tracee Ellis Ross rocked her Isabel Marants and the internet went crazy! Now you can find a dupe pair almost anywhere and in multiple color ways. Then you had the infamous peplum. Whether it was a shirt, skirt, dress, or jacket everyone accentuated their curves with this trend. Lastly, the hi-low trend made a good run. There were hi-low maxis, midis, tops, and more. It allowed you to show a little leg in the front and keep things to the imagination in the back.
