Archives for December 2013

Can you believe that 2014 will be here in three days?!?! I feel like 2013 went by so fast, especially with everything that has been going on in my life. I’ll save that stuff for another post this is all about my personal style and hair! So here are my top fashion looks from 2013. I realized that I post more of my outfits on Instagram than I do here on the blog so follow me on Instagram (@HerGoodyBag)  for more of my personal style looks!

From these collages you can tell that I like heels, bright colors, prints, and red lips. I tried to be more feminine and lady like in 2013 and I think I accomplished that. I wore a lot more dresses and skirts and I took risks with bold patterns in my shoes, skirts, and tops. I tried to “push the envelope” with how I put looks together. This may be safe for some people but I know the image I want to portray through my clothes and I accomplished that. I have never really embraced prints as much as I did this year and I want to continue to embrace prints in 2014. I think next year I will try to mix prints (wish me luck). I have feminine looks and sporty looks. I didn’t stick to a basic style or uniform, I have textures (fringe bag, leather and pony hair shoes, crochet cardigans), prints (skirts, pants, shoes, tops, and dresses), and I have lots of bold colors! I was definitely loving my style this year and I continue to see how my style evolves as I evolve.

Now for my hair….. lol

My sister made this collage for me on my birthday and posted it to Instagram. I sent her a text like wow I had this many hairstyles lol. Take a look at my 2013 Hair Chronicles

Here’s the written timeline of my Hair Chronicles

  • January-Early March– my regular doobie wrap. My hair was about shoulder length.
  • Mid March-May– I had a weave. I was hooked up by my friend from Day Care Cee (@YouCeeMe) and my 18-inch peruvian loose wave was on point. (See pictures in my favorite outfit collages)
  • May-June- I had what I called the half-n-half. I had half cornrows and half-weave. My hair was done by African Hair Braiders. (See bottom right pic in collage)
  • June-August– I went back to Keira (hair braider) and got waist-length box braids. I wanted them shorter but my hair had grown so much from the other protective styles I had to get them long.
  • August-September- I rocked a faux natural Marley bun (See 2nd collage in the printed dress) and then I did my first 2013 texlax. I will update more about this process in 2013
  • September-Now-  I did my 2nd texlax in November. During the last 4 1/2 months I have been wearing my doobie wrap, clip-in extensions, or flexi-rod curls. I alternate between the doobie and flexi-rods the most. I only did the clip-ins for a short period of time. I trimmed my ends recently, but the last time I did a length check, I was probably a 1/2 an inch from APL/BSL (Armpit Length and Bra Strap Length). It depends on what you are using to measure.

Well this is my review of my fashion and hair for 2013. Stay tuned for my 2014 goals!

2014preparation2

This is the last Motivation Monday post of 2013 and I will keep it short and sweet. Around this time many people are creating their vision boards, writing their new year’s resolutions, or simply planning for 2014. I have yet to start any of that because I still have some unfinished business with 2013. So in order to prepare for 2014 I need to reflect on what took place in 2013. So here is how I set my goals for 2014. What I add to this list is based on my reflections, prayers, and conversations that I’ve had that have been enlightening. These categories are not particularly in any order of importance with the exception of the first four:

  1. Spiritual- my relationship with God as a Believer in Christ
  2. Relational- my relationships with people (family, friends, acquaintances, etc.)
  3. Financial- my relationship with money
  4. Health and Wellness- my relationship with my physical body
  5. Career- my next steps to move forward and my current responsibilities
  6. Educational- “learning begins at birth and ceases at death”- challenging myself intellectually
  7. Blog- my plans for the HGB brand
  8. Community Involvement- giving back to others- developing a spirit of generosity
  9. Character Building- How can I become a better me?
  10. Leisure/Self-Care- Doing things that I enjoy and that make me feel awesome!

So these are the areas of my life that I reflect on when developing goals for the new year and also when developing my vision board. I create a table and list a few bullet points for what I want to do throughout the year pertaining to those areas. Some categories can have somewhere between 3-5 bullet points, others may have one. I just depends on what I want to accomplish. I keep it posted near my night stand and jewelry board so I see it constantly.

How do you prepare for the new year?

Hello beauties!

Christmas and New Years Eve are right around the corner, so you know what we need…FABULOUS HAIR. Yes you know I am always switching up my hairstyle, but over the last few months I’ve been giving my hair a break from the braids and weaves. I am somewhat of a product junkie and I love trying new things, so I was excited when I was contacted to try out the new Herbal Essence Volume Kit. I just received my kit in the mail so I will have a review for you about these products in 2014 (omg that feels weird). Take a look at what you can expect from this new collection.

My Ordering Process

It was super easy ordering the collection from Walmart. I  went directly to this link here and placed my order on Sunday and was scheduled to receive my products on December 23, 2013. I love when my hair has lots of volume. That’s one of the main reasons I am not bone straight relaxing my hair any longer. My hair used to be flat and dry a few days after a wash, but now that my hair is much thicker it holds the volume, so I cannot wait to see my results after I use this product.

The products do not contain any parabens, heavy residues, or dyes, but they do contain sulfates.

One luck reader has a chance to win a $50 to Walmart courtesy of Herbal Essences to purchase the new Naked Collection Volume Kit.

Every year I try to buy myself something for Christmas, I treat myself quite well throughout the year, so this year I decided to give myself a little something different, and guess what it didn’t cost me anything (How awesome is that!)

christmas2

1. Me Time– I am EXTREMELY busy nowadays. I seem to only have time for work and school. So this Christmas I am giving myself one of God’s most precious gifts…Time. I need to find balance to do things that make me happy and that help build my relationships. I know because of my schedule I don’t have lots of time, but at least once a week I will focus on me whether it’s a pampering session, reading a book,  or just spending quality time with family and friends.

2. Proper Nutrition and Exercise- Remember my Workout Wednesday posts? Yeah I know that it has been FOREVER and that’s because I have fallen off significantly. My eating habits have become terrible. All I do is snack…I have put on a little bit of weight that I am not too pleased about because of how my clothes fit and my overall appearance so I plan on fixing that ASAP. I need to be healthy, not just for my physical appearance, but just to live a longer life. I don’t want to worry about diabetes, high blood pressure, or anything else that could happen as a result of my diet.

3. Spiritual Renewal– For the last few months my spiritual life has been suffering. I thank God for his grace and mercy everyday, because if it was up to me to maintain his unconditional love and unmerited favor I would be in trouble. I don’t have an excuse or reason for why this has happened, but I have been experiencing great blessings, but also many spiritual convictions that have been weighing on my spirit, because of my lack of discipline and obedience to God’s word. I know what I need to do to get back on track spiritually and that will happen immediately.

4. Joy and Happiness- I wrote a post about joy and happiness back and February and I needed a reminder of what I wrote. Joy is internal and happiness is external. I need to do the things that bring long lasting joy, but also happiness in the moment. I feel like this is something that I am missing.

5. Love– I love me some me and I need to really walk in that mindset. I have to stop rejecting the love of others because I am afraid. I have to truly accept God’s unconditional love and appreciate the people that He brought into my life. I have to truly love my neighbor as myself, no matter the circumstances. I have to give my time, talents, and abilities that God has blessed me with because of his love for me.

So there you have my Christmas list. What’s on yours?
