“12 Years A Slave” star Lupita Nyong’o has been SLAYING the fashion game. She wears bold colors that compliments her flawless skin. Here are a few of my favorite looks from Lupita Nyong’o that she has been rocking while promoting the movie.

Pictures122Her makeup is flawless as well. She chooses great colors that pop against her skin.

Pictures123Her style is simple, yet modern and sophisticated. I would totally raid her closet!

I can’t believe it is Thanksgiving already! It feels like it was just July and now I’m just trying to stay warm. Since it is Thanksgiving and most people will be spending time with their loved ones (others will be in stores shopping) it is only right that I curate (makes my job sound fancy) a few pieces that you can rock for Thanksgiving dinner. Check out my previous posts on this very topic click here and here

Check out the looks I created below

Look #1 The Bulge Friendly Skater Dress– I rocked a skater dress last year and I think I may do the same this year. I was comfortable and cute. What more could you ask for.

Thanksgiving 2013

Look #2 Sporty Chic Sweatshirts and Joggers– I am in love with sweatshirts this year and I love how versatile they are. You can rock a sweatshirt with skinnies, skirts, shorts, and a cute heel or even jeans and riding boots. The sweatshirts versatility is perfect for Thanksgiving! Find one that is embellished for an instant touch of glam. I went with a printed sweatshirt and black joggers (fancy sweatpants) with an ankle bootie to dress up the look. This boots can be easily switched for something flat for more comfort.

Thanksgiving 2013 Look #2

Look #3 The Hostess. Each year I try to set the hostess’ look apart from all of the others. I know realistically the person that is hosting is running around the house like a crazy woman (or man), but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to look fabulous doing it. So I paired an embellished top with a printed pencil skirt. In this look you have lots of prints and textures. None of the pieces are overpowering each other. They work well as a unit and separately when paired with other items.

Thanksgiving 2013 Look #3

Which look would you rock?

no2

I have a confession to make, I sometimes have a hard time saying NO! It is a really bad problem. The word “No” is one of the most powerful words that you could use. I don’t know what it is about that word, but sometimes it is just hard to say.

A ‘No’ uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a ‘Yes’ merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble.

-Mahatma Gandhi

I have to look at myself and evaluate where and how I make my decisions. Saying no is difficult because for me because I know I I don’t like being told no lol. I know that is strange, but I need to differentiate my Nos. Saying no is not only in my best interest, but also in the best interest of others. Gandhi captured EXACTLY how I feel and I’m sure many of you can relate.

“No is a complete sentence and so often we forget that.
When we don’t want to do something we can simply smile and say no.
We don’t have to explain ourselves, we can just say “No”.
Early on my journey I found developing the ability to say no expanded my ability to say yes and really mean it.
My early attempts at saying no were often far from graceful but with practice even my no came from a place of love.
Love yourself enough to be able to say yes or no.”
― Susan Gregg

Susan Gregg has given me a new perspective on the use of the word. Although the word sounds harsh, it can be said from a place of love. If you don’t say no, you will have a hard time getting through life. It will take a toll on you mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and even financially. Sometimes the things that people ask are just ridiculous and saying no is pretty easy, but sometimes people will be disappointed because you are unable to help or grant their request.

I realize that you have to get to a place within yourself where you feel content with the word no. Everything does not deserve a yes and we have be comfortable with that. No is not a bad word, it is life saving.
