Archives for July 2013

Disclaimer: The products discussed in this post were provided for me through NIVEA’S PR Firm. These are my honest opinions expressed in this post.

Summer is here and it has been ridiculously hot and humid here in New York City. As you all know, as the seasons change so should your skin care products. What worked well for me in the winter and early spring is just too heavy for me to continue using now in the summer. So as an influencer for NIVEA I have had the opportunity to try various products and these have made it into my summer skin care rotation.

NIVEA Lip Butter in Rasperry Rosè Kiss

NIVEA Kiss of Moisture Lip Balm with SPF

NIVEA Touch of Renewal Exfoliating Body Scrub

NIVEA Skin Firming Hydration Body Lotion with Q10

What I love about the lip products is how soft and smooth my lips feel. I am very PICKY when it comes to lip balm for my lips. I have this terrible fear of having extremely dry lips and then they crack and start bleeding. I do not want that to ever happen. I have been having success with the Kiss of Moisture lip balm and raspberry lip butter listed above. My lips are smooth and I do not have to reapply as often as I was with other products.

If you haven’t checked out my review of the Skin Firming Hydration Lotion from my challenge a few weeks ago, click here. What I love most about this lotion is not only the skin firming qualities, but also the fact that it is light weight. You do not want a heavy lotion for the summer because you will just sweat it all away. This product is good for dry skin because it hydrates all skin types.

Lastly I love the exfoliating body scrub as well because it keeps my skin moisturized and smooth. It definitely renews my body by getting rid of the dead skin cells that leave your skin looking dull and dry.

So these products will be in HEAVY rotation for the summer. I am also giving away these products to one of my lucky readers! So you will get a Goody Bag of NIVEA products. All you have to do is follow the rules below.

Happy Tuesday  my loves! It’s been a while since I have done a What I Wore post, so I know this is long over due. It was a pretty nice day on Sunday and I was in the mood to wear a dress to church. As I was looking through my closet I noticed a dress that my brother bought for me when he was in Spain last year. I never wore the dress because I didn’t get it until December…smh…and it was just too cold.

The dress is a simple and very comfortable. It is a peach tank dress with a mint green belt. I paired it with and Olivia & Joy Handbag and my favorite pumps of the moment (Prabal Gurung for Target). I put on a lace cardigan because it can get really chilly at church.

As you can see I also switched up the hair do for the summer. I’ve been doing a lot of protective styling lately and this is just the latest installment lol. I chose box braids because they are easy to maintain. I didn’t want to keep my weave because it is just too hot. I wanted my braids to be a shorter length, but the woman who did my hair said it wouldn’t work because of my natural hair length, so I had to go long.

So here’s one final look

Independence Day is quickly approaching and I am sure that many of you will be hitting the beach, pools, or a family barbecue. This day is pretty low key for many people. It usually involves lots of sun (if the weather is cooperating) food, and drinks. Check out these options for a great outfit for the fourth of July!

Here is a curated collection of traditional red, white, and blue piece. You can show your true patriotic spirit without stars and stripes! I love a graphic print t-shirt and I’ve seen countless tops in stores like Forever 21 if you are looking to buy an expensive top. I’ve always wanted a pair of American Flag shorts, but the types that I have found are a little TOO short. I can’t expose the goods like that lol.

One thing that takes my GLAM to the next level is makeup! I am no professional, I’ll leave that to my friend Kim, but I do know a few tips to get that “Beat Face” as many beauty mavens like to say.
So last month I introduced the Hpnotiq GLAM LOUDER contest with amazing shoes, this time they want to see your Glammest makeup.
So from today July 1st 2013 until July 14th 2013 submit your photos of your Glammest makeup looks. They can be looks of yourself or images that you find online.

Right now, I love the RiRi Hearts MAC Collection for the summer. Rihanna is already beautiful and doesn’t need much makeup but I think this photo is the ultimate summer glam look; a bold lip, bronzed skin for a summer glow, and subtle eyes.

“What is excellence at one level is mediocrity at the next.” I saw this tweet come across my timeline a few days ago from my pastor. This really hit home for me because of where I am currently in life. Today I embarked on a new journey in life, I returned to school to further my education. The demands of this program are for more rigorous than any program that I have enrolled in before. What was considered excellent then, is now good and so I know that at this stage I not only have to adjust my work ethic, but also my mindset and attitude.

excellence2

“Excellence is not an act but a habit” said Aristotle. We should always strive to be better and do better than before. Once God has called us to a different stage in life our former lifestyles must change. You cannot have the same mindset or attitude of a regular employee if you are now a supervisor or manager.  What was once acceptable at one level may need to change slightly, or drastically, but change must occur.

Once you reach greatness, however you define it, at one stage, continue to progress do even better.

Colossians 3:23-24 says

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

We must know that we are working for the Lord and he wants our absolute best at all times.
