Archives for November 2012

Although it was nearly 70 degrees this past weekend, the cold weather is in full effect. It is officially “cuffing season” as many people call it and just because it is now chilly doesn’t mean the romance has to stop. My friend, and fellow blogger, Melissa over at Amour and Apparel gave 6 awesome winter date ideas and I have the outfits to compliment them!

When it comes to dressing for chilly temperatures the key is too layer, especially if you are doing outdoor activities like ice skating or window shopping- during the holidays. Then you may have those warm and cozy dates where you just need a great jacket and a great dress. So here are some outfit ideas for those chilly winter days that can keep things a little spicy.

Look #1- Leggings, oversized sweater, lace up boots, winter coat, scarf and gloves

winter date inspired outfit

This look is relaxed yet stylish. Instead of going for traditional black leggings, try a pair of knit leggings in a novelty print (with snowflakes) or a geometric pattern. Pair with an oversized sweater that can be belted to cinch your waist, ankle boots, and a cute coat and you are read to go. Make sure that your hat, scarf, and gloves bold, to brighten up the dreary winter days. You can reverse this look by wearing a solid color bottom and printed sweater on top.

Look #2- Sweater dress, tights, knee boots, faux fur vest

Winter Date Inspired Outfit #2

This look is sexy yet chic. Rock a sweater dress with a faux fur vest or even a blazer for a more polished look. Because it is chilly always wear tights and for more warmth, opt for a knee-high boot or over the knee boot instead of pumps or ankle booties. This look is perfect if you are going to see a play or having dinner and drinks. You can opt for a sheath dress, paired with a long sleeve shirt and a vest if sweater dresses aren’t your thing. Make sure you add a pop of color and your evening bag is the perfect accessory to complete the look.

Look #3- winter shorts, patterned tights, over-the-knee boots, novelty sweater, bowler hat, satchel handbag.

Winter Date Inspired Look #3

This look is for the fun dates. If you are going to shoot pool, bowl, or even catch a movie have fun and put your jeans away. Choose a pair of shorts in a heavier material and pair with your favorite patterned or colored tights. Heels aren’t always a requirement so rock a pair of the over-the-knee riding boots with your favorite sweater to complete this look.

Look #4: skater skirt, pussy-bow blouse, ankle boots, envelope clutch, wool coat

Winter Date Inspired Out Look #4

This look is for elegant and sophisticated. Skater skirts are so versatile. They can be worn with t-shirts, blouses, denim shirts, or even sweaters. For this look, I paired the skater skirt with an embellished pussy-bow blouse to add a little femininity without the sex appeal overkill. This look is great for wine tasting.

If you want to snuggle and get close to your date, go for a sweater in a light weight material so that you won’t feel too hot and stuffy, making it uncomfortable for you to get close.

These are just a few outfit ideas. All looks can be altered, swap out leggings for jeans or shorts for a skirt. Just make sure you are comfortable!

The name alone makes people faces go :/ but many fashionistas and celebs alike love this trend. It is the perfect cold weather accessory for layering. Because of the thickness of the fur and even the length (most hit at the hip and can go even longer) fashionistas pair this with their favorite denim jackets, trench coats, and even maxi dresses. This is definitely a luxury item, even the faux fur vests can be a bit pricey.

Can you believe that 2012 is almost over? I can’t! It seems as if this year flew by! Time definitely does not wait for anyone so right now it is time to FOCUS. Do you have any goals that you want to accomplish before the end of the year? Is there a relationship that needs to be reconciled? Is there a task that you want to complete? Is there an event that you want to have? Do you have any fears that you want to overcome? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you need to focus.

Create an end of the year plan and work toward ending the year on a good note. You do not have to wait for a new year to start fresh.  Isaiah 43:18-19 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” You do not have to be bound to your past or what you didn’t because with Christ, all things are made new. So focus and move forward.

One of my favorite praise and worship songs is “Moving Forward” by Israel Houghton. The lyrics say:

“I’m not going back,I’m moving ahead/Here to declare to You my past is over in You/All things are made new/Surrendered my life to Christ/I’m moving, moving forward”

So it is never too late. Move forward and end the year on the right path.

Now that boot season has officially arrived, although many people wear boots all year round, it is time to pull out those boots that you have been dying to wear. If you feel your boot collection is slightly limited, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. One of the biggest trends for the fall with footwear are studs. Yes studs have been around for quite a few seasons and people stud everything from their sneakers, to their headbands. The 5 boots that I’ve chosen are not the typical boots you see everyone wearing like the studded Litas, or Lita look-a-likes, studded heelless wedges, studded wedge sneakers, and even studded combat boots. I gave a variety of styles ranging from knee boots to ankle boots. I tried to pick styles and colors that are not only fall appropriate, but also functional. Some studs are subtle, others are more flamboyant. Either way each shoe will upgrade any outfit.

Here are my picks Click the image to purchase!

5 Must Have Studded Boots
  1. The wine/burgundy color is what attracted me to this shoe
  2. These would go great with a pair of jeans, a skirt, a pair of shorts, or a dress
  3. The studs going up the back of the leg is a nice surprise
  4. I call these boots “Rocker in the Wild, Wild West”
  5. The color of this boot makes it a staple and can be paired with just about anything
