Having a heart of gratitude is essential to living a fulfilling life. You must be grateful and give thanks in all things that you do. We should not just give thanks when things are going well, we must also be thankful for the hardships we experience. There’s a saying that goes “without pain you will never know the true meaning of joy.” I was out of my home for about 19 days due to Hurricane Sandy. It was an uncomfortable situation because I was not in my own space and I was getting on my sister’s nerve. I thanked God everyday for me having a place to go because there were some people who had no place to turn. I was thankful that I only lost power, while some people lost family and friends and all of their possessions.

There was a point in time where I was not happy at my place of employment. I was angry, bitter, and I complained. Once I reevaluated my life and my heart I had to give thanks that I had a job, while there are thousands who are struggling because they are unemployed. I realized that I was making myself miserable by complaining about what was happening at my job. I was not motivated to do anything, but then I realized that I need to adopt an attitude of gratitude. Give thanks for the good, the bad, and the ugly. For every experience there is a lesson that can be learned that will help strengthen you as a person.

So looking for the blessings in everything. Look at how God is working in your life to improve your character and make you a better person. Don’t run from adversity, but look to see what you can gain. Colossians 3:15  states”And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” So give thanks in all that you do.
