This past weekend was the taping of BET’s Black Girl Rock at the Paradise Theatre in New York City. Despite some of the rachetness that BET produces, this is one of the more quality productions from the network. Founded by Beverly Bond, Black Girls Rock set out to provide young women of color with positive images of themselves, contrary to what the media portrays. Black Girls Rock introduces these young women to the arts and is dedicated to helping young women of color develop a healthy self-esteem and recognize their self worth by changing their perspective on life.

Here are a few photos of what to expect when the show airs on BET November 4, 2012

Add a little color to your fall wardrobe! As many of you may know I am an advocate for all things bright and bold. Usually for the fall and winter months we tend to gravitate towards colors that are….hmmmm how can I put this…..dull. Most of the time I just see black, grey, navy blue, and olive green. Guess what? Your fall wardrobe does not have to be a drab! You can still get the feel and look of summer and spring by adding bright and bold pieces to your wardrobe.

Brighten up your fall wardrobe with jewel tones. Jewel tones are colors like sapphire, emerald, ruby, etc. colors that reflect jewels pretty much. They are deep, rich, and compliments all skin tones. Other colors that could fall in this category would be royal blue, royal purple, rich raspberry, deep teal etc.

You can incorporate these colors into your wardrobe a number of ways. You can start with colored denim. Yes your same bright colored jeans from spring/summer can be transitioned into the fall. Trade your sandals in for a pair of booties and a leather jacket. Also try color blocking amber and emerald, raspberry and royal blue, amber and ruby, there are numerous possibilities. To achieve a cohesive color block look for the fall go with the darker/deeper tones on bottom and the brighter tones on top. This will give a slimming effect for those who want to minimize their bottom half as well.

Below you will find some great options to incorporate color in to your wardrobe from 6pm.com

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.” Erma Bombeck

Yesterday I attended the Kings Men concert which featured Gospel recording artist Marvin Sapp, Israel Houghton, Donnie McClurkin, and Kirk Franklin at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. I’m an avid concert goer, but this was my first gospel concert and probably one of the best concerts that I have ever attended. What made the concert so awesome was the presence of God and to see 11,000 people praising God. That was truly awesome. Anyway, with gospel music you have to do more than just sing a song, you have to minister to a person’s soul and that was definitely done last night.

One thing that I took away from the concert was just to live your life to the fullest, meaning follow your dreams and walk in your purpose. We can’t worry about if others would approve of our decisions, only person we should seek approval from is God. We must seeks God guidance with everything in our lives. God doesn’t want us to lead or live miserable lives. He doesn’t want us to be unhappy. In order for us to live life to the fullest, we must first figure out what talents, gifts, skills, and abilities God has given us and cultivate them in order to walk in our purpose and meet the needs of people.

Step out on faith and say bye bye to fear, doubt, insecurities, and all of the negative thoughts and people in your life. God does not want you to settle. John 10:10 says “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Do not let anyone kill, steal, or destroy what God has intended for you to have. Don’t get in your own way as well. I hope this helps someone as it has helped me.

Have a blessed and productive week my loves!

Hey my loves!

I was browsing Essence.com and came across two photos. One of our First Lady Michelle Obama and Selita Ebanks. Both were wearing the illustrious color Royal Blue.

Now I am partial to the color because of the greatest sorority ever, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. I also like the color because of it’s meaning. The color blue is often associated with depression, but it also means peace, loyalty, confidence, and harmony.

So here are a few picks that will have you looking and feeling confident in royal blue!
