Fall/Winter 2012 Trend Report

Even though summer is not officially over, the “end of summer” is when September rolls around. The temperatures will still be quite warm, but most people’s work schedules will change (no more summer Fridays) the kids will return to school, and many things generally pick up around the office. It all happened so quickly. Now we have to start prepping for  Fall. Well, you are in luck! I have compiled a list of some of my favorite trends for Fall of 2012.

Generally like with most seasons there are some things that are just staples, like blazers, trench coats, riding boots, etc. Also colors like forest green, burgundy or wine, and golden yellow (traditional fall colors) will always be “in style.” But there are a few trends that were seen on many of the runways that can be worked in to your everyday look.

Here are my Top 5 trends of Fall 2012

1. Color Blocking– it is around for yet another season. Sometimes it is overdone, but this something that you can add a fresh spin on. Look for pieces that are already color blocked. So look for shoes, tops, jackets, and dresses in color blocking patterns. If you want to go the traditional route, you can definitely color block with complimentary colors. I would do darker colors on the bottom and add the pop of color at the top or with the shoes and accessories.

2. Modern Military– It seems like this “trend” has been around for the last five years. Military styles are the perfect way to blend masculine styles with feminine structures.

3. Statement Prints– Another “trend” that’s not a trend. Prints will never go out of style, but the fashion god’s have deemed it in style yet again for Fall 2012. This time, experiment with different prints. If you wear a lot of floral prints, try something in a geometric print. When you mix prints, make sure you choose prints with complimentary colors.

4. Peplum– great if you want to hide the tummy or accentuate your hips. Peplums will reign supreme once again. Add to your peplum collection with jackets, blazers, and coats. This will definitely help carry this trend in to the fall.

5. Sheath Dresses– a sheath dress was featured in one of my styling posts. It is a wardrobe essential for every woman. It is extremely versatile as well. You can opt for solid colors like black, navy, or burgundy, or you can spice up the look by going for a printed sheath dress. The dress is a stand-alone item or it can be worn as a skirt by pairing a cardigan or pull over on top. You can also rock this with a long sleeve turtleneck or button down blouse underneath. This type of layering will allow you to wear the dress in the spring or fall.

Noteworthy Trends
1. Novelty Knit Wear- Add a modern twist to grandma’s sweaters. Pair with your favorite trousers or skinny jeans for an updated look.
2. Metallics– a little sparkle and shine will go a long way. Metallics aren’t just for nights; pair it with more subtle colors during the day.
3. Plaid– jackets, shirts, hats and scarves, plaid is uber casual yet chic. These pieces would be great additions to a wardrobe for more casual looks.
4. School Girl Chic– pleated skirts, reader glasses, layering sweaters and button up shirts with a classic pencil skirt will give this teeny bopper look a more mature feel.

What trends are you looking forward to incorporating in your wardrobe this Fall?
