Now you all know that I absolutely  love and adore Michelle Obama. She is the epitome of all things classy. She is refined, yet down to earth. She carries herself with such dignity and grace that she has transformed many people’s opinions about Africa-Americans, well African-American women in particular.

According to an article written by Nathalie Dolivo, we (African-American women) were clueless when it came to style. According to the article that has been removed she states:

“In this America led for the first time a black president, the chic has become a plausible option for a community so far pegged to its codes [of] streetwear”

She also states the Obamas dress “white” but still maintain their “blackness” with symbols.
Is this woman serious? So before Michelle Obama we were just running around in Baby Phat and Apple Bottoms? Or were we just wearing burlap sacks? So I’m guessing we had no clue what an A-Line skirt was or how to mix prints, or how to rock a cardigan and pencil skirt in complimentary colors? Or  was it that we were just rocking our Jordan Heels, Timbs, and Air Force Ones, that we never saw a classic black pump or a kitten heel? J. Crew wasn’t one of our go to stores huh? Let me guess you only saw us coming out of Dr. Jays and Jimmy Jazz?
Well Nathalie Dolivo, I’m sure now you regret writing that article, but we don’t need your help or validation on black style. We’ve got that covered.
People are getting more and more bold with the blatant racism. First Rihanna is a ‘niggerbitch’ now blacks didn’t have style until Michelle Obama became first lady. I hope other journalists and editors of  predominantly white publications are taking note. When one group is blatantly disrespected, what is that going to accomplish? How will that benefit your readers?
What do you all think about these controversial comments?

  1. I am just so fed up with the ignorance! People just dont know what to do with themselves nowadays. And with Nathalie Dolivo being a Black woman herself, it baffles me that she would even write an article like that. If Black women dont show support for other Black women then who is? Great post!
