Archives for August 2011

I just recently started going back to the gym. I know most people work out before the summer to get their body’s in shape, but not me. I wait until summer is over to work on the pudge. I know Fall will be here soon and I will be piling on the layers, but I still need to lose a few pounds so that my clothes fit properly.

Anyway, once I leave the gym I am a sweaty mess. My hair is soaked and by time I get home it is very dry.

Since I cut my hair short I can’t go back to the comfort of my beloved pony’s. I get my hair done once every 2 weeks and my hair does not last at all anymore. I started washing my own hair, which alleviates the cost of me going to the salon once a week, but I still want my hair to last longer. Is this even possible?

Here are some tips that I found that worked for other people

  • Wear your hair in a ponytail
  • Wrap your hair and tie with a bandana *if you sweat excessively do not tie your hair*
  • Make sure your hair is away from your neck and forehead
  • Try a leave-in-conditioner
  • Blow dry your hair as soon as you finish working out *too much heat*
  • Use a dry shampoo- it removes the oil and dirt in between washes

Before I run out and buy these products, I want to know what works for you all.

Are any of you having the same dilemma as I am? What do you do with your hair once you leave the gym?

So last week I did some online shopping for the Fall. I didn’t plan on shopping so early, I like to wait until the last week of August, but I tend to buy a few things here and there. I recently bought two pairs of boots that I fell in love with. I haven’t been this excited over boots in a very long time. When they were delivered yesterday, I walked around my house with each pair on for about an hour. They both were so comfortable that I didn’t want to take them off lol (weird I know). So here are the boots that I recently purchased.

The Kapri boots were actually sold out but my research skills are extraordinary so I was able to find them on a different site. I did not hesitate to order these boots. There was a pair of Steve Madden shoes that I wanted and they were on sale for $60. I said I’ll order them in the morning and they were no longer on sale. I love how the boot folds over and I fell in love with the zipper detail. I will probably wear the heck out of these boots since they are so versatile. They can be worn with skirts, dresses or jeans. I can’t wait! These boots retail for $34.99. They have a cushion on the inside which makes them super comfortable.

The Kately boots are genuine suede. I love that they are blue. Even though the shade of blue is pretty light I am still going to wear these in the fall. I started putting looks together for these boots already too. What was even better was the price. These boots were on sale for $12.24. I have a tan pair similar to this so I knew they would look good. I did not hesitate to purchase these either.

Here are pics of the boots in action

Both pairs of boots were purchased from Target.

Have you started making any purchases for the fall yet?

The Simmons’ Sisters and Pastry Owners were spotted at the Magic Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Pastry Empire continues to grow and Angela and Vanessa were at Magic to introduce their new collection.

I am more interested in what they are wearing than the Pastry Sneakers. Pastry’s are out of my age range in my opinion, but these two ladies stay fly!

Vanessa is killing it with the Jessica Simpson Dany platforms, black and white printed pants and black tank. I love the pop of color with the yellow bra and pink nails.

Angela is rocking what seems to be a cutoff maxi and some black shorts. She kept it really casual with a pair of Pastry sneakers.

During the runway show, both ladies rocked a pair of Pastry’s. I love Vanessa’s blazer. The leopard print on the sleeve’s cuff is a nice surprise. She paired her blazer with a leopard print cami and black shorts. Angela took notes from her big sis earlier and rocked black and white pants, white top, and a statement necklace.

What do you think of their looks?

Neutral colors are always in season. They are just more prevalent during the Spring and Summer months. Malinda Williams and Kelly Rowland both show us two looks that are very different, but they both have the same elements, which are neutrals.

You can achieve many looks with neutral pieces. Kelly’s look is very classic with the ruffled blouse and basic black pump, while Malinda’s look is very modern and chic with a t-strap platform and semi-sheer top. Neutrals can work all year round, whether you choose to rock a neutral tops, pumps, or pants.

Here are a few netural pieces that will help you transition in to fall

Jessica Simpson Brook Dark Neutral $80

This snakeskin pump is perfect for the fall. Because it is mostly dark brown with hints of nude and beige, it can go with just about anything

Neutral Kimono Cardigan $53

This cardigan can be worn with jeans, pants, skirts and dresses. Layered over t-shirts and tank tops, add a belt and a pair of booties in a contrasting color and you are ready for brunch with the girls or a quick shopping trip.

Neutral Fur Buckle Gilet $65

Fur vests are becoming staples and can be worn like a cardigan. On the cooler days opt for a long sleeve shirt or even layer the vest over your favorite tank and cardigan or jean jacket.

Gap Perfect Khaki Pants $50 also available in pavement (dark grey)

Make room in your closet for the wide-leg pant–it’s back in a big way. Their leg-lengthening, flattering fit gives you a great alternative to the skinny.

So start making your transition with these neutral pieces. Find a piece and make it your own!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I did a little bit of shopping, a lot of eating smh, and I also went to the movies to see “The Help.” I enjoyed the movie more than I did the book. The book was good, but there were too many holes in it for me. That’s another subject for another day and blog. Anyway, here is what I wore Saturday shopping and to the movies

I wore: Forever 21 shorts, American Eagle Loafers, White T-Shirt, Jewelry Street Vendor
