Archives for May 2011

Memorial Day 2011 is Monday, May 30, but get a jump start on shopping for that summer wardrobe with all of these sales.

Clothing & Shoes

For most of us Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer and the official start of barbecue season. This weekend the parks will be packed, backyards filled, and the city over crowded with people celebrating Memorial Day.

My biggest dilemma is finding the perfect look appropriate for all of the craziness I will be partaking in this weekend. Do I want to rock a maxi dress, or a mini skirt? Shorts or skinny jeans? Flat sandals or a wedge?

Well with any day, not just a holiday, we want to look fly so here are some outfit inspirations for Memorial Day weekend.

You can never go wrong with a dress. They are quick and easy to throw on.  This weekend’s weather in NYC is supposed to be AMAZING, so a flirty summer dress is perfect. If you are going to a BBQ pair it with flat sandals or a wedge heel for a more relaxed look.

Try a crop top with a wide leg trouser jean, cut-off denim walking shorts, or skinny jeans for a trendy, yet polished look. You can layer the crop top with a tank or camisole if you do not want to bare all of the goodies!

Have some fun in a flirty skirt. Go for prints! Try a floral or tribal print skirt with a striped tank to mix and match. If you want to play it a little safe pair a printed skirt with a tank in one of the accent colors. Bodycons are also great. Show off your curves, but keep it a little classy with an over sized tee  or even a crop top with a tank underneath. Pair the skirt with some cute flat sandals or a ballet flat and you are good to go.

Try a pair of shorts or skinny jeans in bold colors, or leggings in floral prints or geometric designs. The new and improve Harem pant is also a great option. They give you the comfort of sweats but are more polished. You can also go for rompers and jumpsuits as well.

I hope this posts helps! Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend…in style of course 🙂

Last week one of my friends invited me to his sister’s final presentation at FIT and there is where I met Melody Ehsani. I have been a fan of hers for years. I ordered custom made earrings from her for my very first Her Goody Bag   shoot.

I must tell you that she is a super sweetheart. I didn’t want to bog her down with tons of questions but I did manage to sneak in a few.

I asked Melody when she originally started designing did she expect this type of response to her designs, she said no. She just started designing because she loved being creative.

Many celebs have been seen rocking her designs like Alicia Keys, Keri Hilson, and Beyonce, but her first major client was Prince. She also designed for Erykah Badu.

I asked Melody what did she have in store for everyone next. She has teamed up with Reebok to create a sneaker which will be relesed next summer and she is now working on an apparel line.

You’ve heard the phrase “Rules are meant to be broken” right? Well this does not apply to everyday life, but it certainly applies to the world of fashion.

We’ve heard rules like

  • Your shoes and purse must match or be the exact color
  • Never mix prints
  • Wearing white after Labor Day and before Memorial Day is UNACCEPTABLE
  • Tights and peep toe shoes are a no no
  • Never wear any combination of black, navy and brown

Well with the help of JC Penney I am here to help you break the rules. So here are some great looks that are super affordable at JC Penney

Mixing Prints… stripes and florals are great together. This look can also be achieved with a floral skirt and striped top.

Last night after American Idol I watcehd the 10 o’clock news and one of the top stories was about hazardous body shapers. I know what you are thinking, “not my beloved spanx?!?” Well according to Dr. Oz and other health professionals, our “secret” to keeping everything in may be harmful to our bodies.

According to the health professionals body shapers can

  • Rupture nerves
  • Cause shortness of breath
  • Cause tight belt syndrome (100 cases per year according to Dr. Oz)
  • Cause fainting due to tightness
  • Cause acid reflux
  • Cause urinary track infections and yeast infections (shape wear tight in the crotch area)

This is not only for body shapers, this is the case with skinny jeans also.

Many women were polled on the street and they all said the same thing “I am never giving up my spanx or skinny jeans.” I feel the same exact way!

As long as you look at all of the options available to you and you buy the right size, not too small or tight, your health will not be affected.

With this information ladies (and some gentlemen, yes guys wear spanx too) would you consider giving up your
