Archives for December 2010

This is probably one of the most exciting, but craziest shoe sales I have ever been too. It is definitely worth the madness because you get amazing deals! Last year I got a pair of Calvin Klein Python sling backs (perfect for work) for $30 and a pair of UGGs (wedge heeled boots, not the traditional UGGs everyone wears) for like $70 and they were originally $200. I will definitely take part in the madness again.

I was asked to create a look for someone attending a friends birthday party. The party is at a swanky hotel and they want a sophisticated party look. So here it is…

The new year is upon us and it is about that time that everyone sets goals that they want to accomplish throughout the year. I don’t necessarily believe people have to wait until January 1 to make a change, but for many people this is a good starting point. I always write my goals out in various categories such as: faith, relationships, career, finances, health, etc. So this year I added two new categories, fashion/style and beauty thought it would be fun to share my fashion and beauty resolutions with you all for the upcoming year.  So here it goes…

  1. Shop my closet: When I shop, I sometimes forget to think about what I already own. I sometimes end up with two or three of the same or very similar items. It’s not until I get home and put everything away that I realize I had something similar. So I can only buy things that I don’t already own.
  2. Create more creative looks: When I say creative looks, I don’t mean “crazy.” I usually stick to classic pieces, which you can never go wrong with, but I want to play around with more colors, textures, prints, and accessories
  3. Buy more accessories: My accessories collection is slowly fading, and accessories transform an outfit. So when I shop, I will look for accessories first, since they are significantly cheaper than purchasing an entirely new outfit, to create different looks.
  4. Use my makeup: I have A LOT of makeup, not as much as a makeup artist, but I only wear makeup when I’m going out or on the weekends. Sometimes I don’t feel like getting up 15-minutes earlier to “put on my face” for work. So I must not waste my money and use what I have.
  5. Hair Rules: I want to try different styles. I have three “signature” styles that I rock now: my good ol’ faithful doobie wrap, a sleek-chic ponytail, and curly/waves. I want to try different hairstyles to switch up my look. Also work on getting my hair healthier. I am not on this “natural” bandwagon that most people are on. I was considering going natural, but then I really thought about it and thought why? My hair is healthy now, and I am relaxed, but I want it to grow fuller and longer.
  6. Nails, Nails, Nails: I used to do my at home manicures every Sunday, then I fell behind with some things at work and spent my Sundays trying to catch up instead of pampering myself. So I need to keep up with my manicures because they do wonders for my old lady hands.

What are your 2011 fashion and beauty resolutions?

This is the last Thirsty Thursday of 2010! So here is the last look of the year!

If you and your friends still have not solidified any plans for New Year’s Eve, here are a few suggestions from Glamour that will not break your pockets. As we all know, this is the one time of year when clubs and restaurants charge outrageous prices to bring in the new year at their establishment. I don’t think paying $100 per person to bring in the New Year is necessary. You can still have a great time and get ahead start on that savings plan for 2011. Here are the suggestions for a great New Year’s Eve date that won’t break the bank.

1. Invite a few friends over for a potluck. Your delicious smorgasbord will be way more wallet-friendly than dinner at a fancy pants restaurant. Plus, you’ll have plenty to snack on while waiting for the ball to drop.

2. Order delivery and watch your favorite movies on DVD. If you and your beau are hoping for a more intimate way to ring in the New Year, call up your favorite delivery spot. Remember to place your order super early (at least an hour before you’d like to eat), delivery times on big holidays can be pretty intense.

3. Have dinner at a diner or burger joint. If you’d really like to go out on Friday but don’t want to drop a ton of dough, head to a hole-in-the-wall spot you love. Your dinner bill will probably cost less than cover charge at a fancy club. And since most party-minded folks will go to dressy and expensive restaurants that require reservations, your no-frills dive shouldn’t be too crowded. If you’re feeling really festive you and your fellow could splurge and order a milkshake. With two straws.

4. Prepare a few fancy appetizers and drinks and have a romantic night in. Get in touch with your Iron Chef fantasies by whipping up your favorite culinary goodies.

5. Get your game on. Play one of your favorite board games together while sipping champagne. Slightly saucy Scrabble, anyone?
