Archives for January 2010

In USA Weekly, Dr. Oz (Oprah’s health guru) has given great advice on how to feel better in 2010. He has outlined 16 things that we need to start doing now. The year just started so let us get motivated and get going!

1. Don’t skip meals– let the meals you eat be healthy and filling so you can get the proper nutrients and feel satisfied longer.

2. Ditch extreme diets. People almost always fail to lose weight because they try diets that are too radical to stick with. For a lifestyle change to succeed, it must be sustainable.

3. Savor every bite.Dr. Oz says, so many of us agonize over what to eat, then don’t spend any time actually enjoying our meal. Do not eat infront of the TV or computer. Have a leisurely chat, and chew at least 20 times before swallowing. Not only will you savor and appreciate each bite, but you’ll also eat a lot less.

4. Become a pill popper. Nooooo not ecstasy or illegal prescription drugs but vitamins. Dr. Oz says Vitamin D and Omega-3 fats are crucial. We need to take 1,000 IU of vitamin D daily to decrease our risk of vitamin deficiency, heart disease, multiple sclerosis and immune disorders. Omega-3 fats are crucial for our brain. We need 400mg daily. One option is to take a tablespoon of lemon-flavored cod liver oil every morning before you brush your teeth.

5. Throw out your scale.Dr. Oz says as a nation, we are obsessed with weight. But our waist circumference is actually a more informative measurement than the number of pounds on the scale.  The size of your waist indicates how much dangerous “omental” fat you have-that’s the fatty layer of tissue beneath your belly muscles that pumps inflammatory chemicals throughout your body driving up blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.

6. Eat well, then eat what you like. Check nutrition labels and make sure you follow the recommended daily servings, then you can have what you like (almost…don’t get carried away).

7. Go for a walk. Get a pedometer and stick it in your pocket. If, by the end of the day, the number of steps is under 10,000 walk around the block until you reach that goal. Walking strengthens your core muscles, promotes endurance and blasts fat.

8. Take control of your health.Chronic disease afflict hundreds of millions, but staggering numbers of people are completely unaware that they’re even affected.  See your doctor about screening for heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes, no matter how old you are.

Stay tuned for Part 2. of our Healthy Tips for Feeling Better in 2010!

Ok so I know celebrities like to go “all out” for their New Year’s Eve celebrations, but these are some looks that I can’t get with…

Ashanti’s new look….I really think she is trying a little too hard….its not believable. The edgy/rockstar look is NOT for everyone…deal with it and be you!
Lady GaGa and blood….

Busta Rhymes…and his ruffles…I don’t think this is fashion forward…sorry

Kid Cudi with a Kilt and Jordans…he gets a pass lol

Jennifer Lopez….I don’t know what to think. I actually like J. Lo but this is just a poor costume choice. She is trying extremely hard to keep up with Beyonce, Rihanna, and Lady GaGa but I don’t think it is working for her *kanyeshrug*

So what do you think?

Self-Discipline-noun- Training and control of oneself and one’s conduct, usually for personal improvement

I know many of us set goals or resolutions for the new year, and by February we have become less motivated or we have taken our eyes of our target. Well today, the first Monday of 2010 I encourage all of you to exercise self-discipline. Jesse Owens said “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort” In order for use to  achieve our goals for the new year and for life in general we need to be disciplined. Too often we fall off of the wagon and take our eyes off the “prize” and we never get what we want or accomplish any of our goals. As a result, we can sometimes feel like a failure or empty. Many of us fall off of this “wagon” because of the lack of self-discipline.

We say we want to get healthier or in shape, but we do not change our poor eating habits or CONSISTENTLY exercise. We say want to save more money and stick to our “budget,” but we spend frivolously or we buy breakfast and lunch everyday or buy the pair of shoes that are not a necessity at the moment. We say we want to become closer to God and have a better relationship, but we do not spend time with Him daily by praying to Him, meditating, or reading His word.

In order for us to really see a change in our lives and feel accomplished, first we need to set REALISTIC GOALS. Our goals must be attainable and we have to set DEADLINES!!! Giving yourself deadlines and sticking to them will help you become more disciplined. So start off small with a simple to do list. What goals do you want to accomplish for the day, week, month, and year. Once you have set your goals stick to it!!! Self-discipline is crucial especially when it comes to improving your self-esteem, job at work, relationships with a family member, friend, co-worker, or spouse.

We need to change our habits and routines. Everything we do should be working towards one of our goals. Developing good habits and routinesare the first two steps in self-discipline. Say no to McDonald’s (I struggle with this and Burger King lol). If your friends want to go out to eat save money by eating before you go and just ordering maybe one drink and an appetizer instead of an entree. Getting in the habit of clipping coupons or looking for deals on line instead of just splurging and impulsive buying or leave the credit cards and debit cards home and put yourself on an allowance (I’ve started this already).

One thing that I struggle with is being TOO SOCIAL and PROCRASTINATING.I am always in somebody’s classroom talking or someone is always in my classroom talking and I procrastinate with grading, reading, or planning. I need to be more disciplined and keep my mouth shut because every Sunday I am always grading and it is stressful. I need to stop procrastinating and get the work done and I need to become more disciplined in that to make my life easier.

If you are comfortable where you are at this moment, that I great, but self-reflect and examine your life and see what areas in your life you need to be more disciplined. We can ALWAYS become better people.

Jim Rohn said “We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment”

I would rather suffer the pain of discipline to reach my desired goals then to be disappointed in myself and have regrets because I was not disciplined enough to accomplish anything. Which do you choose?

Ok so I think everyone has heard about Jay-Z being a Free Mason and a part of the illuminati. I’ve seen videos and heard clips about what each Blueprint represents and that he is satanic and a devil worshipper and the Roc Symbol is the symbol of the illumnati…blah blah blah. I am not saying that it is true or false, but there are A LOT OF COINCIDENCES. Anyway, after watching the “On to the next one” video I really think Jay-Z has pretty much caught on to the hype that is building around him being a devil worshipping satanic free mason (if that makes sense).

This video is really ridiculous. Now all of you  know that I am a die hard Jay-Z fan. His lyrics are incredible and no one can deny the fact that this man single handedly transcended hip-hop, but this video is not what’s poppin. Ok you may want to be more blatant now,  because people are speculating your alterior motives, but this video is actually pretty scary. I’m not a fan of skulls or black lipstick with really pale skin (Marilyn Manson scary) and the black smoke with the “special” images. I mean artistically the video is AMAZING but other than that #ontothenextone. The video has nothing to do with the song at all so Mr. Carter what are you “on” in this video MDMA (ecstacy)? Jay-z is a very smart and strategic man and I’m pretty sure he did this video to get the people talking to add to the speculation of his role with the free masons and possibly the illuminati.

I don’t think that he is really this crazy to put out a video that pretty much confirms what people have been speculating. He is probably going to say that this is “art” but #cmonson it is clear that you may have some alterior motives. Maybe he got to a point where he is like you know what I don’t care I am a free mason and what? What can you possibly do to me? Lol Jay is hilarious for this one! I hope this was a joke the he is playing on all of the people who continue to speculate.

What are your thoughts?

Happy New Year everyone! This is a fresh start! I encourage all of you to write down your goals and implement an action plan. Without a target what could you possibly focus on? So lets try to make this year better than the last. Sure you will face disappointment and you may even be discouraged, but remember God will make a way. Keep him first and you will be blessed. Once again, have a great new year! Let us start off the year right! Be positive and have a positive attitude. Remember your attitude determines your approach and your approach determines your success or failure. So what is your attitude for 2010? How will you approach the new year? Be blessed!

Love You All

Janique 🙂
