Dance, singer, actress, friend, daughter, sister, role model, trendsetter Aaliyah held many titles. She was indeed someone special to the music industry and to the world. Aaliyah was one of my main inspirations for becoming a dancer. Her movement was so fluid and seemed so effortless. She made it cool for girls to wear baggy jeans, cut off tops, and let us not forget the infamous swoop! When people speak about her, they always use angel in the same sentence. She was truly a blessing to everyone she met. I remember when I was younger Aaliyah was signing autographs at Macy*s Downtown Brooklyn. I stood on what seemed like the longest line of my life for the autograph of my favorite entertainer. Her sudden death startled everyone because it seemed like she was just beginning to get the recognition she deserved.  Her music and her legacy are timeless. Aaliyah was an inspiration and even though she is not here with us physically, she still inspires many today.

Aaliyah truly embodied wha HerGoodyBag stands for. Besides her little stint with R. Kelly (I blame her mother) she was never in the media for negative reasons. She carried herself as a respectable young woman with class. She respected herself and others, hence why she is loved by so many today.

“We Need A Resolution” Aaliyah
