Here are pics from Cassie’s edgy photo shoot with DimePiece clothing. Cassie looks stunning and fierce and is rocking that cut. Maybe this shoot is what Cassie needed to give her the edgy rocker chick look she was going for.  I went over to the DimePiece website to see what else they had brewing for their Autumn/Winter 2009 collection. The message on one of the shirts say “One P*ssy You Can’’t F*ck With” As I surfed the site I began reading what DimePiece is about…

“Dime Piece is a lifestyle and brand aimed at catering to all the boss b**ches dipped in sauce. These are the females that have the potential to make a positive influence and consistently turn heads. P**sy appeal is a natural force that all females control. We as a brand encourage women to see the need to reconsider their position in the game. We are in control, period. A dime piece is a woman who appeals to her audience with genuine swag. She is a self-governing revolutionary who embodies all things sexy. She proclaims her opinion and attitude through her adventurous dress. She is educated by the books as well as the streets. Our products are for all who want to make a statement and aren’t afraid to leave the restrictions at the door. Let’s be a go-getter, a kitten with claws, a fashion aficionado, and memorable individual who is essentially the perfect ten.”-memorable? for what reasons?

I understand the message that DimePiece and MTTM/MOB (Married To The Mob/Most Official B*tches) are trying to get across as premium brands, but what happened to CLASS? That doesn’t exist anymore apparently. Yes, it is 2009 and women are more empowered than ever before. We are more outspoken about our sexuality and sexual liberation (mainstream use of vibrators…Barbara Walters talks about it) and about our wants and needs, but when did it become cool to conform to blatant disrespect?

Seriously think about it, what message are we sending tomorrow’s youth? Besides the fact of having a limited vocabulary we are not uplifting or motivating young females.  As a high school teacher, I see first hand how impressionable these young girls are. Their self-worth is already nearly non-existent. Some may say well it is the responsibility of the parent to teach young children about self-worth and self-respect, but what if the parents aren’t there? Who should step up? With Michelle Obama being the First Lady, I think we need to do better. Mainstream has popularized the term B*tch and let us talk about our vagina like its just an object.

P**sy appeal is down right offensive! How about we as whole become more appealing without eluding to our reproductive organs. We need to start using our brains as power, and not what’s between our legs. Now many females are out prostituting calling it being an opportunist.  “I’m not having sex for free. He better get me those Gucci sneakers. I mean my stuff is powerful so he should trick on me.” SMH! So you are saying you are only worth a pair of sneakers, maybe a bag, a piece of jewelry?

Think about the people who are in the limelight that supposedly speak for females who yearn to be heard: Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Cassie, Rihanna, Lady GaGa (don’t know if I can count shim) Amber Rose, Brittany Spears, Teyanna Taylor, Aubrey O’Day, D. Woods, The Olsen Twins, Nicki Minaj, Lindsay Lohan to name a few. Think about how they are perceived in the media, either having an eating disorder, drug/alcohol problem, abusive relationship, indecent exposure, and so forth. So this is the voice of the modern woman? This is who represent us? Yes they all get fly and dress their butts off but is this who we want our children looking up too? Style wise YESSSSS, they are fierce, but what about character?

Angela and Vanessa Simmons, Chanel Iman, Amerie, Janelle Monae, Chrisette Michelle, Kyla Pratt, KeKe Palmer, Tia and Tamara Mowry, Adrienne Bailon, Monica, Dawn Richard, and the list goes on. How many scandals have they been apart of? They have style and class in my opinion, respected amongst their peers and their fans. They are the real DimePieces because their style and character speak volumes!

Don’t be afraid to leave restrictions at the door, but don’t leave your class with it. By all means, express your attitudes and opinions, but how you express yourself says a lot about  your character. If you want to be respected demand it! You don’t have to call yourself or your friends a B*tch to earn  respect, it comes across in your presence and your actions. Lets broaden our vocabularies and find other words to describe ourselves. No acronyms or acrostics for B*tch either.
